    Is anyone here participating?

I'm going to try. Not sure what it will really accomplish -if anything - but it seems like a fun bandwagon to jump on.

Of course we will be candlelit! Look at the pre-school dude attends! (and I figure I'll have my husband alone, in the dark for an hour AFTER dude goes to sleep??!! With NO distractions?)

    All OVER it. Literally.

I'll be at a wedding, so my home lights will be off, but I'm guessing the bride and groom will skip it. (Although if any bride and groom would embrace this at a wedding, these would be the ones...)

No, but given my politics, I am tempted to run around and turn on every light in the house at 8:30, just because I hate all this greenie/the-earth-is -about-to-die/recyle-or-the-end-of-times-is-coming/can't-you-feel-the-global-warming?-I'm-hotter-already/Al-Gore-the-Yale-"C"-student-who's-now-a-pseudo-scientist-WARNS-us stuff that gets shoved at us.

tee-hee! snark-snark-snark. Just kidding! (I am WAY too cheap...I run around the house turning OFF lights.)

(At 8:30, DH will be DONE WITH BOARDS and the sitter will be watching the munchkins!)

Hehe, that was our plan. Especially after we went to the zoo this week to find a completely full parking lot except for the front 11 spots that have now been reserved for, "alternative fuel vehicles". So where did I park? Yep, right there in the reserved spots, running my minivan while I nursed my baby. I figured she was in cloth diapers, that's alternative enough for me (of course we use the cloth simply because we are cheep, not to save the environment).

LOL! DH is the worst. I swear he leaves a trail of lights on behind him. If you can't find him just follow the trail of lights.

My DH does this too. He recently changed the lightbulbs in our master closet, and then said to me: "we should make sure we turn this light off whenever we're not in here". I just gave him this look that said: "you've got to be kidding me, right?!?". I made sure and pointed out the next five times he left that light on...in one day.

The NYT had a great article about when and where to use the CFLs and they're NOT to be used in places like closets or table lamps but lamps that are on for longer periods of time like outdoor lights or overhead lights.

It was really helpful and explained succinctly the pluses and minuses to them. I'll see if I can find the link.

AND, we ended up at a friends house so my default all of our lights were off- except for the outside lights that we can't figure out HOW to turn off. (the joys of buying a home that had been owned by not one but two different DIYers. Our electrician says it's essentially a nightmare that should ALL be redone. Right. That's a cheap fix...)

HAHAHA!!! We have had similar experiences.

I swear, there are days when I just trail behind after him, turning off every electrical applicance he has (inexplicably) left on. He leaves a wake of waste...

We were at a party, so our lights were off until midnight. I wonder if the lights off for an hour really accomplishes anything. I'm Abigail on this one.

The (apparently, very bored) press camped outside Al Gore's monstrocity of a mansion last night and reported on all the lights he kept on...

Sacrificing is good for the little people, I guess.
