  • Social Groups

So I'm getting requests to join our social group from people I don't recognize. People who haven't posted as far as I can tell. Do I just let them in? Are these social groups supposed to be protected in some way? Can people that are not in the groups read the discussions going on in those groups?

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do...

I do not think the social groups are very secure. I'm fairly certain that everyone can see the groups and maybe thread titles. I also think they can post within them even if the group is "invite only". That's what I discovered with the Old Bitty's posts at least.

If you are receiving requests for admission from people that aren't even iMSN members, that should be stopped. I think (hope) we can limit social group access to registered members. Otherwise, there will be a big spam potential. Whenever we leave anything open to "guests", we get spam several times a day.

I'll check the social group settings in the admin panel and see if I can tell what's what.

Well they have registered, so I suppose technically they're members but they've never posted...

It depends on your settings, but you can set your group so that only group members can see the forums and posts (The administrators can see them too though...we're such a curious bunch LOL) though the existance of the group itself will be visible within the forum.

You can allow whomever into your group that you want and if you don't feel comfortable admitting someone who hasn't posted, it is your right. You can either talk to them and get information about them or request that they have a certain number of posts.

Some of the groups really seem to be active and others are hanging out there...but group leaders have the final say. I think the Northeast Ohio Group is rockin! LOL
