OK- for those of you who are young, this is probably no big deal.

But for those of us in our late 30s and beyond, this man WAS the news. He was calm, he was truly unbiased and he was the truth. (I'm 42, FYI)

We would all gather in front of the TV and watch the CBS Evening News. Every single night, no deviation. I called my parents and we collectively raised a toast.

It is the end of an era. As much as I love my Keith, I kind of wish we could return to the days of 'real' TV journalism.

I'm not in my late 30's but I remember him - his voice was always so soothing. It would be nice if the news went back to his era.

Somehow it's fitting he died the week of the 40th anniversary of the moon landing. (Obviously it's before I was born, but I've seen the footage countless times).

          He was an icon.

I'm with you Jenn. I have such vivid childhood memories of watching the evening news and listening to that fantastic voice. He just always seemed so dignified, classy and trustworthy.

                He was Da MAN.

My parents are visting now actually so I was able to hear their perspective in person which has been extremely interesting. My parents are 61. My dad has voted on both sides of the political line and said he "told the news like it was...no agenda."

They new he was sick but it IS the end of an era.
