  • Specialties Sticky?

Where did that sticky go that had the answers to all the questions about each specialty. (Hours, lifestyle, length of training, etc.)

Now that we're in MSIII, I'd like to take a look at the specialties that are flavor of the week around here. Also - thought some of the newbies might have something to add!!

I would LOVE to see this too! I was actually thinking earlier how helpful something like that would be!

I am pretty sure it was "lost" during the last site conversion.

I'll give you info about General Surgery - Just don't do it!!

            ha. ha.

really, if the thread isn't found, dh is far enough along in his residency that I could give a profile for a community general surgery program.

If the thread isn't found, maybe we could start it over? I just know how helpful it would be!

I thought it was stickied in the Call Room forum. Maybe it got unstuck and is just pages back.

I don't think this is the sticky thread but it may have a lot of the answers you're looking for:

Right now, the flavors of the week are cardiology and emergency medicine.

I'm trying to remember all the questions contained in that thread. I think they were generally:

                      Which Residency?
                      Length? (Years)
Rotations which are included in the residency? Are there easier or harder rotations?
                      Research years?
                      Call? (in house?)
                      Shifts/Hours per Week?
                      Any other unusual facts?
Family friendliness? (Any rotations or periods to avoid or shoot for having kids?)
                      Salary/Quality of life post-training
Availability to Live where you want? (i.e. are you confined to major cities/academic centers?)

Let me know what else I'm missing!

Thank you to whomever found it!!! So, if any of our new members who are currently in training want to answer this, I know many of us still in the MS years would be eternally grateful!!

Wow, thanks so much for reviving this sticky! My boyfriend is just starting to think about specialties, since he's started his rotations, and this will definitely come in handy talking to him about how to chose what to apply in, and what factors people look at. He's in the boat of liking everything he's done so far, which makes it hard to chose, but is a better boat to be in that not liking anything
