  • Cleveland Clinic Pain Managment

I've been reading all of the great advice on relocating to the Cleveland area. I am wondering if there are other areas with good schools besides Shaker Heights, Lakewood? Something affordable on a PGY-5 salary. We will want to rent a house or apartment.

    Thanks!!!

Mayfield Village has excellent schools, but puts you about 30 minutes to the hospital. I've heard that Lakewood schools aren't as good as they used to be, and Shaker has also gone down in standing. South Euclid schools are just okay (last time I heard). Don't even consider Cleveland Heights schools.

Mayfield Village and Bay Village are probably the two best school districts within 30 minutes of the hospitals, but I imagine that a rental in either area would be pretty pricey. And honestly, the 30 minute window I'm giving doesn't account for traffic. My friend rented a tiny 2 bedroom apartment in MV about 10 years ago for $950/month.

Strongsville schools are also good - about 30 minutes south of the city. I hate Strongsville (grew up there), but the schools are good.

I would suggest Solon for good public schools and fairly affordable housing.

In Ohio there is an online/homeschool option that is tuition-free --- curriculum, computer, and internet stipend are all included. www.ohva.org

Solon does have good schools -- but that's getting about 40 minutes out from CCF - right? Once you head out towards Solon, Chagrin Falls, you're going to have very good public schools, but the commute in to CCF is tricky b/c those are off of I-480 and the closest access to University Circle is either 90 or 71 / 77 (and all 3 take you through some seriously dicey neighborhoods to get there).

          Funny, Lily!

Yes, Jenn, it would be at least a 40 minute commute. I would probably take 480 to 271N to Cedar. I think the commute would be worth it to be in a good school system. Of course, this is all said in hindsight...b/c you know I don't live in Solon.

            The follow-up video's good, too.

I don't know anything at all about schools here, sorry!

                Thank you for your responses

Wow! It was sort of depressing to read your replies. We will have home call, I believe, so many of those areas probably not work (I don't know the details, but I have heard 30 minute commute max?) I will look more at Lakewood and Shaker Heights and see how their scores are looking.

As a teacher, I definitely look at scores, but I am also looking at experiences in a school. Are the teachers at the elementary level good? Since my kids are small, and we will only be there for a year, the middle schools and high schools don't concern me much. I know from experience that schools do better on testing at the elementary level.

If anyone else knows more, please let me know. I really appreciate your responses!!

                  Oh snap!

Looks like a radio station in Destroit got in on the act.
