That is how long J has been asleep. Last time he slept this long it was 17 hours. Its rather impressive. I know these Drs are very sleep deprived but it still amazes me every time. Do your Drs sleep this much when they have a chance?

Hehe sleepy doctor! DH doesn't sleep in much. He gets squirmy and I kick him out of bed. He will occasionally sleep for over 10 hours, but it's usually when we go to bed super early. His mom says when he was a baby, he would never sleep if the sun was out.Laurie

The most recent time I can think of was a 12 hour "nap" that occurred post-call. Unless call was absolutely brutal, he won't even take a nap but instead goes to bed super early (9-ish).
This time, however, he was down for the count.Wife to Family Medicine attending, Mom to DS1 and DS2

He might but with 5 kiddos sleeping that long is simply not an option.Tara

Heeeeellll no. We've got three kids. He isn't allowed to sleep more than a couple hours post call. Sure he feels like shit and looks it too. But....our kids need him. And I need a break. A two hour nap...on the couch. Which includes the noise, jumping on and playing...is about all he gets.

See, he's never post-call. He's post on-call but dude gets to sleep in his own bed these days.
Six years of training and one deployment later and the man can sleep in his own bed every single night. (not that he does, which is why he's cranky)
So far in attendinghood, he has gone in once while he was on-call and that was because one of his patients was dying and he wanted to be there w/ the parents. Other than that (knocking wood) we're done with that PITA.

DH isn't doing a residency where he works nights or has a true "post call" day. BUT he still acts like he needs to catch up on sleep from med school. He can fall asleep at 8:45 if I'd let him. I once let him fall asleep really early (8:30 or 8:45) and asked him the next day did he feel really good and rested. He said NO that he woke up at 3 am and couldn't rest very well from 3 until his alarm went off at 6:30.
14 hours is impressive!!!Wife to PGY5. Mommy to baby girl born 11/2009. Cat mommy since 2002

Haha.. I had that after five hours once. I woke him up for dinner like I usually do post call and he says, I think I am going to sleep till tomorrow. So I leave him alone. Two hours later he wakes up and goes, why didn't you wake me up for dinner? I tell him I did and he told me to go away. He tells me he doesn't remember that conversation.-L.Jane
