Paging Robin or anyone else who knows about med transcript

Hey! Could you give me some information on your job? How did you find it? Where do you recommend going to get a medical transcription job from home? How is it? Is the $$ good? Etc.

I'm trying to find some work that I can do from home after the baby is here and this seems like an avenue worthy of some investigation. I did some dictations for an MD about 10 years ago but I'm sure I could get back into the swing of things!

I don't know how much help I will be because I just sort of fell into it. I had a friend who did it and she was so overworked she was looking to train someone to help her. I volunteered and it has been an AWESOME job for me. When she ran out of work, she sent me over to another medical transcriptionist that she had worked for at one time. I still work for her long distance. I know someone else here who works on the Internet from home and she just got the job recently. I will ask her how she did it. I make decent money now that I am up to speed. It can be really frustrating in the beginning because you start off slow. I get paid by the line. I have been doing this for a little over two years now and I am making anwhere from $15 to $20 an hour depending on the doctor and if he doesn't mumble through it!

The other plus for me was that I learned all my hubby's lingo so I wasn't totally in the dark when he was talking medicine!
