I feel so bad that your hubby has the shingles. I really hope he gets some medication and that it works ASAP.

So I made the mistake of telling my DH to go to the Dr. He said that it doesn't hurt that bad, but then limps away.I can tell he is in pain, but he will not admit it. Grrrrr I might be able to convince him to go to an after hours clinic tonight, how do i find these(just in the phone book)? So needless to say I am pretty pissed at him. Apparently everything comes second to this surgery rotation even his health.

Maybe if you remind him that passing along chicken pox to adults who have never been exposed can do all kinds of nasty things like cause infertility in adult men.

If he accidentally exposes infants or pregnant women to the chicken pox, he can also inadvertently cause other bad things.

So, if he wants to be dealing with possibly permanent pain and exposing other adults to infertility and miscarriage, then tell him to go right ahead and plow right on through and not take 15 minutes for his own health.

PS- this is not an uncommon phenomenom. They're all idiots when it comes to their own health.

Some pharmacies have them. There's CVS here. They have a Minute Clinic sign outside. I think Wal-Mart does too. I'm pretty sure that's where my Mom went when she got shingles while on vacation here.

The thing is, the pain can start out mild and then become very severe, very quickly and it can last weeks. My Mom recovered after three weeks. My Grandfather lost the sight in one eye due to shingles.

My DH would be reluctant to get a script too but this is one time to keep at him until he does. He'll thank you later!

Did you find a after hours clinic? He really shouldn't be exposing others to this stuff. If all else fails call a family meds doctor or go to any retail pharmacy and ask them for the name of an after hours/weekend hours walk-in clinic. If you mention you are new the area and that your husband needs treatment for shingles you'll get some help.

So after some begging, pleading and then some finely delivered curse words, we made it to a walk in clinic. He got a script for acyclovir, and then said he didn't need any pain meds. So who knows. He talked to his attending and as long as the sores were not open then he was okay as long as he is wearing scrubs, and no one comes into direct contact with them. So after being around all those sick people and dealing with DH, I am exhausted!!

Glad to hear he's doing better. You don't want to mess around with shingles. Dh had shingles last year at the start of Dec. Even though it was on his torso & covered Occ Health would't let him in the hospital for four days. As soon as he noticed the rash he prescribed himself an antiviral. Really made it go away quicker than expected. He is in general surgery and there are so many really sick patients he was not allowed to risk their health. He said it didn't hurt that bad and got a mini vacation from work! He has an unreal tolerance for pain.
