We were talking with the children about Angels the other day and then one of them wanted to know about ghosts and neither dh or I had ever given the question much thought so I did a little googling and found a great article (several actually but this is one of my favs.). Anyway, just something I found interesting and thought I'd pass it along.

Hmm...that's a really interesting article. I believe in ghosts (really more on an angels and demons level) but I've never really dwelled on it much before. Creeps me out a little bit.

I'm assuming the article is written from a Catholic perspective, so I think I can answer this. While Catholics believe there might be good "ghosts"--angels, loved ones, etc. like those in the article, the majority of what people "go searching after" is demonic in nature...(I think the article mentioned this?) so you don't want to go inviting that into your life. No ouiji boards, etc...

I can answer this from my religious perspective:

Those people who are "mediums" are actually communicating with EVIL spirits (unless they are charlatans who aren't communicating with anybody - Harry Houdini did a good job of pointing out those particular tricks).

There are good spirits and there are evil spirits. The evil ones definitely want to communicate with us. And, in reality anyone can communicate with spirits (good or evil) - requiring a "medium" is unnecessary in that regard.

I believe in spirit presence of both good and evil - I think of demonic minions, juxtaposed with cherbs and seraphim. Now, I know that angels (bear with me here) are beings, which in Judeo-Christian belief are creatures made by God. But I still think there are forces on this earth that if one should want to evoke them, it's possible.

Why would anyone willfully seek out a ghost when they could commune with God Himself? I dunno. I've always found it a bit odd that people would rather communicate with a ghost than with God, but I don't think anyone who has encounter the one true God would ever settle for a ghost...or even two. It's not even a real question. It's like offering a person who is dying of thirst all the waters of the seas or just one glass of cool drinking water. One can kill you and the other can quinch your thirst, but they are both water.

My religious perspective is very similar to Ladybug's.

If I have the choice between having God communicate with me through the Holy Ghost or (even more phenomenal) an actual angel (messenger sent from God) vs. having some other random spirit communicate with me I'd pick the communication from God any day.

I truly do believe that there is an entire part of reality that we cannot directly see (a spiritual world). And, I do believe that individuals and groups in that spirit world seek to influence events and persons here in mortality. With that I understand that I must choose whom I should speak (pray) to or listen to. And, my choice would be the same as Ladybug's.

Oddly enough, someone did inform me today that two guys enlisted in the navy fell through the roof into my current office back in the day and died there, and supposedly walk around the building late at night (The IT building used to have a second floor and was a military building). Apparently they are cute. Just had to share.
