  • Dirty Dancing

So recently, DH asked if I'd like to get dance lessons for the two of us for Christmas.
I thought about it, and I'd really love to take a contemporary ballet class (drool!) or... pole class. He he he --

Anyone involved in either, or has been in the past? I'd love advice and opinions

*As an aside: Patrick Swayze looks beautiful and graceful on "Dirty Dancing" right now. Had to watch it, just felt like seeing him at his prime.*

DrK and I did an Arthur Murray ballroom dance class. It was fun but expensive for very few classes. I wish we could have kept it up because I don't think there is anything more charmng than cute elderly couples that dance so comfortably together at weddings.

I do pole. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Only thing: if you end up liking it and want to practice and improve, you'll have to either go to several classes a week to get sufficient pole time, or install a pole at home. And you should buy a nice, high-quality pole, which run about $350.

Let me know if you've got any specific questions about pole!

But, if you guys want to take dance classes together, pole might not be a good choice. I am not saying that straight guys can't do pole; I'm just saying that the few guys that have been in my class, they are gay. They are AMAZING pole dancers, by the way, because of they are powerful and graceful, but I don't think it is an activity for straight guys...unless they are merely watching.

I think S would be VERY happy if I got into the kind of shape that a pole dancer needs to be... and extra extra happy if I decided to install one of these said high-quality poles in my home

Dancing lessons would be AWESOME! I don't know that I could convince S to do anything like this with me though...

I would love to take any sort of dance lessons. One semester in college, I needed 2 more credits for a semester (I was taking 2 or 3 foreign lit classes, adding another was NOT an option) I took a classical ballet class. I totally sucked at it. So much so that the professor "mentioned" that it might not be the right class for me. hehehe. I told him that I needed the credits to count towards graduation and that I was merely looking for some exercise. He agreed to let me stay in the class and I ended up taking it for 3 or 4 semesters. It was great.
