Err...it hasn't happened to me but I was out of town when the alarm system tripped and the police showed up with no way to contact me or shut it off. I'm sure that the neighbors loved the blaring alarm for two hours and all the squad cars. :embarrassed:

This happened to my next-door neighbors (two adults, no kids) twice in one weekend. They had been having problems with their land line for years - so much that they never used it and never bothered to cancel it. Apparently their land line malfunctioned twice to make the calls.

This has happened to me several time over the past few years. Twice in one weekend last year. We still don't understand what happened.

So it turns out that it was the phone line acting up. My mom tried to call this afternoon and only got a busy signal. Then my dad tried to call later and got a message from the phone company saying that they were working on the phone lines in the area. Mystery solved.
