Are families usually invited to match day? I would hope so, but you never know with medicine right? I saw the schedule for match day from last year and it's an all day thing. I had just assumed that we would be there with him; am I correct? I'm on the internet right now planning out a match day outfit. No joke.

Thanks! I did some more digging and one person is allowed to go with him. Looks like they rent out a ballroom in a hotel. But I didn't see anything about a dinner. I do know the students throw one hell of a party that night, usually in a club. I remember going to match day parties back home before DH was even in medical school!

DH's school has done match day at two locations. I think at the school (where you can have an unlimited amount of guests, but they don't do a lunch), and the other at a reception hall where you can only bring TWO guests, but they do provide a nice lunch.
Well they are doing the reception hall this year. Which means if you are married you can't have your spouse and your parents! Kind of absurd if you ask me.
We decided to reserve a room at a local restaurant in town and are inviting both sets of parents and any friends who want to come and celebrate/wipe away my tears
(And then we'll join up with DH's med school friends that night for the bar crawl).Loving wife of neurosurgeon

It was not a family event for DH. In fact, it pretty much was completely sterile and unceremonious. Early match sucks that way.
I was wearing my bathrobe as we waiting by the phone, for the call from the Dean's office, with the faxed-in results.
Then I showered and went to work. Whoopee.

Most schools include families (or at least one family member), it seems. I imagine there may be a few out there that don't, though.

I tend to err on the side of being overdressed, which hasn't gone unnoticed, haha. I'll probably stick with that... it's cold in NYC in March, though... particularly that week (which also happens to be NYU's spring break, during which it always snows in NY). Gah.
Graduation is in June, though. Much better! I'll likely be raiding Ann Taylor next month when the spring merch is out for a nice sundress to wear. (random: DH is graduating med school in the same venue as my undergraduate college/program graduation).Back in the Midwest with my PGY-2 ortho DH and putting my fashion degree to good use.
