Vlad's family (high school crush/obsession that dragged me along on his mental-health rollercoaster). They had 2. But they were Serbian, so they had the loyalty thing going.

I could write a book on my IL's antics. Against all the evidence, I thought they might soften up some when their first grandkid arrived but the FIL would not even hold her and ignored her when she was cooing at hm (who can ignore a cute baby?!!) They also waited to see her until she was 4 months old and stayed 2 days. That was also the first time they ever visited us after 5 years of marriage! (They are both in good health and retired.) We used to go there once a year and I'd have a miserable time, but I'm so over it. I told DH they are more than welcome to come here but I will not waste my time and money to have a miserable time with those grumps.

Also - one of the SIL's (they are both horrible) implied my daughter was not cute TWICE.

I have never brought up anything to them (there are seriously a million more things they've done; every time I talk to them they say something rude.)

I am SO glad I am not alone. I have thought about writing a book on our crazy life and CRAZY in-laws. I would be fine with never talking to them again.. however my SO wants them in our life. As long as we living 2,000 miles apart.. I am fine with that
The horrible thing about it is that our in-laws parents on both sides have treated them the same way they have treated us for the last 5 1/2 years. You would think they would learn from their parents not to treat their children they way they were treated.
The good thing is we have learned from this and will NOT be treating our future children or anybody like this.

Guess who got into it while I was visiting a friend and her kids in SD??
*sigh* My DH, and my ILs. Let's just say it's a lot harder to confirm boundaries and privacy when you live with your parents -- apparently, it was nuclear. Yikes!

Maybe we'll make it living in this house for another 17 months? Oy.

Oooh - so sorry. Hey, at least it was him and his parents. Still, it sounds bad. Here's hoping that some good comes from the discussion. Counting down the days with you.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I'm in the I love my in-laws camp too! They differ from my family (whom I also love) quite a bit, but in a way I can appreciate.

My family reads a LOT into things. What you wear, who you hang out with, what you do in your spare time, what social obligations you are or are not fulfilling...these things carry a lot of meaning. Insignificant choices illustrate your character, your life, your destiny. I agree with this to a degree...but it gets to be too much sometimes.

My in-laws don't read into anything! I think I'll stay on their good side as long as I'm a "team player" i.e. join in on family activies once in a while. It's very nice they're so accepting and that they just want DF happy. When my mom and I are on disagreeable terms, it is nice to go to their house and not be judged.

Thanks so much for the hug! Sometimes, a hug is most definitely needed (esp. considering he's on Q4 again). Maybe we'll move out...? Come on, job applications!
