Ooo. Fun story? I don't know who it'd be in DH's class. There might not be one, but the few who might be possibilities I actually like, haha. (One I've known since freshman orientation of undergrad!)

No big rants here, except the grocery delivery didn't bring our ground beef. I'm going to have to check our final receipt to make sure they didn't charge us for it.
Also impatiently waiting for our state tax refund. Hoping we still get it considering NY state is broke.

Rant- I have to spend thousands of dollars completely gutting a bathroom in a house I don't live in, that I will NEVER live in (again) and that's just to put it on the market. The house I'm currently living in is a giant freaking mudpuddle so now we have to either pay a landscaper or put in the topsoil and sod ourselves. Apparently the first landscaper heard "doctor" and decided to jack up the price accordingly. He quoted us $17, 982 'just' to do the front yard- and not even completely do the entire front yard. Riiiight. I called all of the recommended sources for sod/soil/landscape materials and total they're less than 4k. Nice mark-up. Im sure the guys he hires don't get that profit...

So, guess what we're going to be doing every spare moment until my husband leaves for DC? Yep- I can spread topsoil for a lot less than almost $18k.

Jenn -- We got the same kind of mark up with landscaping here.....and ended up doing a lot of it ourselves. (The rest is not done at all!)

          Warning- doozy of a vent:

My life lately sounds like a bad movie- so bad it'd be funny if I weren't living in it. We've had rats in an exterior basement wall that we've had pest control trying to solve since Thanksgiving. Not IN my living space, thank goodness, but it's hardly comforting. We have sealed EVERYTHING around the house, had guys search the crawl space, bought a scope, staked out the house at night with a flashlight listening for sounds, finally found a crack between the soffet and gutters where we thought they MUST be coming in, and it was quiet for 2 weeks after we spent lots of $$ to fix that... then new activity. Scoped the sewer two weeks ago and found cracks they'd apparently missed when we scoped it moving in 5 years ago. Another 4 grand to dig out and repair that, and they found huge rat holes 10 feet underground- no wonder we hadn't located them. Now we're replacing the entire basement wall and part of the floor where they were coming through the bottom of the foundation! I'm the family financial planner, and I've been scrambling to keep up with the huge unexpected changes in our spending... WHILE feeding/driving/mothering my 3 kids, doing PT on a torn tendon in my foot, trying to get back on top of my 8-year-old's epilepsy, and having giant, painful fights with DH, who is writing a grant again and impossible, yet miraculously has time to interrogate me about why I'm handling such-and-such this way and not that way. (Because he's not HOME to handle it.)

As a symbol of my current state, I found POOP on my master bathroom floor the other evening. All my girls were in bed and DH was on night shift, and I was left wondering if a kid put it there without telling me (4 year old goes potty, 2 year old has yet to ever do anything outside a diaper...) or if a neighbor's pet came in my door while the construction guys had it open. Spent a while peeking under beds with a flashlight making sure no creature was hiding out! All my girls looked genuinely surprised when I questioned them the next day. Turns out it probably WAS a neighbor dog- the workmen said they chatted with a guy on our street as his 2 small dogs ran around, so probably one of them came in and made a "deposit" when nobody was looking. GAHHHH!

So anyway, I'm trying to get through all this and I know things'll get back to normal eventually, but sometimes it just feels like it's going to kill me in the meantime.

"My life... with crap in the middle of it."

Boy, do I ever need a vent. I accidently knocked a giant, Costco sized bottle of olive oil from the top of our fridge onto the kitchen floor this morning. It, of course, shattered on impact leaving the floor, cabinets and my clothes drenched in oil. Great start to the day. My wood floor has never looked this shiny, though.

On-the-street parking SUCKS. Husband and I have already agreed that when we move to our next apartment, off-street parking is a must. With two kids in carseats I have to load one from the street side even in good weather. Right now, though, with a big snow bank plowed up onto the curb, you can't get the curb side rear door open when the car is parked, and I have to load them both in from the street side. I am not comfortable with this at all. There's not really a safe way to do it.

My rant/whine is that while on vacation Sophie started ing and kept it up for a solid 4 hours. She woke me up at 12:30 this morning, started puking at around 2:30. Then it was every 30-40 minutes until around 6:30. Thankfully, she was willing to puke in a bowl for the most part. When everyone got up this morning, I found out that my mom started puking at 4:30 this morning (I heard her moving around). We were supposed to spend the day at the water park and leave after lunch, stop at the outlet mall and be back home by around 4. Instead we left at 9:30 this morning.

On the plus side, we had an awesome room and negotiated a great rate.

It was nothing too big--it just PO'ed me. DF and I have a friend that is applying to the medical technology program at UTSW, but has already rented an apartment in the area and is looking for a roommate. I suggested she might post on the UTSW Class of 2014 Facebook Group DF is in since a lot of those people are looking for roommates. The admin of the group deleted her posting and promptly changed the name to UTSW Medical School Class of 2014--cant have those pesky allied heath students in the same group as the almighty med students, right? And heaven forbid they live together... (to be fair, he did tell her to post in the discussion area instead of the wall, but still deleted her posting and changed the name, implying she wasn't welcome)

My rant. . . the usual. Night float is miserable and DrK is a zombie. MIL is annoying and self-involved. I'm anxious about ending maternity leave/returning to work. yadda yadda. Nothing new here.

Nope. Just the usual. We are planning a trip to FL. She's decided to be upset about it. And she's annoyed that we are dividing our time there between DrK's family and mine.

We got our bank account emptied last week from a theif who somehow got ahold of our bank card info and went on a spending spree in the bronx at Best Buy. Dh just got paid that day and I was going to pay bills now we have to wait two weeks until the bank investigates to get our money back. Totally broke and unable to pay the bills If the stupid bank even looked at our account they would know at first glance that it was fraud. Stupid giant soulless institutions.
In a similar situation here. DH went to a conference and the hospital was supposed to pay for the hotel. But the hotel messed up and charged us for everyone's hotel! almost $2,500! now we're broke

Rant #2 for me: DH was home to put the kids to bed last night for the first time (well, he doesn't really put the kids to bed, but he's in the house so that's something...). Anyway, I was putting the baby to bed (after he tried and she screamed for 15 minutes) and he was putting Luke to bed, and when I finally saw him again he said, "Luke was really thirsty today." Of course, he let him drink as much as he wanted, and then guess what I have to deal with today. A wet bed. GGGGRRRRRRRR. Why can I not train the Dr... He doesnt' listen to me. My way: Less than 1 cup of water after dinner and pee right before you get in bed. Equals no wet bed for 6 weeks straight. DH's way: Let the little booger have whatever he wants. Who cares? I'm not here in the morning!!! lalallala.
