Stupid question. Should I make an effort to bring in the patio furniture and yard toys? In a hurricane, they warn that that stuff can be projectiles. Or do I just save space in the garage for DrK's car when he comes home?

It sounds like they're most worried about tonight. I hate overnight storms! I got a weather radio app for my phone that's supposed to sound an alarm if there's a tornado warning in my area. I hope it works! Tonight will be my third night of bad sleep in a row...

I'd save room for his car. Cars can become even worse projectiles in a tornado!

Our flight is this afternoon. Hopefully it will hold out until we are safely away.

LMoreta- if we get stuck overnight we will be heading to your shelter! We'll bring some pizza

MrsK - Your area has basements, right? If so, I'd just leave the stuff in the yard. If a tornado hits, there will be more projectiles than your patio furniture. Stay safe! When we were in central IL, I always tried to make days like that seem fun - we did PJ day and movies in the basement, water in a rubbermaid tub with bath toys, picnic in the basement, etc. My oldest is terrified of tornados (her teacher said she was physically shaking during their tornado drill last week), so I try to just keep her mind off of bad weather and her eyes away from any windows. Stay safe!

I wouldn't worry about the toys/furniture being projectiles, just getting damaged in wind/hail. If you aren't worried about that, no biggie. I would save room for Dr. K's car though

Good news is that the boys are playing together nicely. Bad news is that I jump out of my skin every time their toy trucks buzz and beep because I think it's the weather radio.

First tornado warning issues in Ks. I know everyone doesn't love storms like I do, the best thing is to stay alert and have a plan!

We'd love to have you! I will warn you that it would be a really tight fit, though. Our shelter is designed for 5-6 adults. Another family is planning on coming over, so there will already be 4 adults, 2 toddlers, and a baby in a carseat.

You might be more comfortable at your hotel. OKC has tunnels underneath it, so there would be a quick place you could evacuate to there. If you'd feel safer here, though, you're welcome to come! Last year we had four adults, one toddler, and three babies in there, so we can make it work!

LadyM...didn't know about those apps. I just bought one!

I have a programmable weather radio I got for my 20th birthday (dweeb alert) but it is a PITA to program. This is much easier. Though probably an issue if towers go down...

Last night there was a warning in a town close to us, but not close enough, so the alert on my phone didn't go off. But then, I guess if it didn't trigger my phone alert, it wouldn't have triggered a weather radio either. Our town never had a tornado warning last night, and I told it not to do an alert for a tornado watch, since that was pretty much all night long.
