  • 09:12PM UTC Funnel reported south of Wichita. Near the Wellington area. Rain wrapped, you will not know it is there until it hits you. Take cover.

Keep your radio on, and you should be okay. I unintentionally chased a bad storm on a move for my internship one summer in college. Ended up waiting an hour at a gas station for it to get farther ahead of me!

      • We had silver-dollar sized hail here. Two broken windows and lots of broken screens but we're fine.

        • A friend posted pics of similar hail at their house - were the ILs there? So scary!

ETA: We have date night tonight - we talked to our sitter and she still wants to come so we're going to go out, luckily we're not going far if things get bad...

          • The ILs were at the hotel. They are here now and they are a little anxious about whether we are moving somewhere where tornados are frequent. We are supposed to go out to dinner but IDK now.

              • Do they live in Florida? Because Florida has the most tornadoes of any state.

                  • Seems like people from the east coast (not FL) are freakishly scarred of tornadoes. With my up coming move I'm getting loads of questions about tornadoes. I forget some people are not used to hiding under a mattress every week in the spring time.

I don't understand people who AREN'T freakishly scared of tornadoes. With little to no warning they can completely demolish a house in seconds, pick you up and throw you 100 yards down the road. What's not to be afraid of?

Amen! It amazes me the amount of people that are completely unprepared and uninformed that live in tornado prone areas.

                            • Lets say I have a healthy respect for them. It's the misinformation and irrational fears that drive me nuts. In most cases being aware and having a plan will keep you safe. There are the situations where it won't but they are the much more rare tornadoes.

                              • They only freak me out when they're CLOSE. Otherwise, not a big deal.
