  • MobileMe

I know there are several here who luuuurve the iphone, pad, and other apple products. So, I am hoping that you will have something to say about MobileMe. DH and I got our mac.com accounts before there ever was a Mobile me. I hated to pay for an email address when you can get them for free but DH never got around to changing addresses, etc. Fast forward to today, Apple now wants to charge $100/yr for DH's account and $50 for mine!! Why the steep price, you may ask? It is because, according to the Apple guy, MobileMe has all these feautures-blah-blah -blah. STILL, $150??!!

Any of you use Mobile Me and all its glory? If so, please share how it makes your life better. It will be a huuge PITA to change emails, save info, etc - so, if I can learn how Mobile Me can be worth its price tag, I will consider keeping it. One thing that Apple dude told DH was that the Mobile Me users where the only ones that could track their iphones via GPS and erase all the contents remotely if it ever got stolen. DH sees the $150 as insurance in the event of theft.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Wow! I don't know anything about Mobile Me, but that is really expensive! If you are willing to risk it though... My guess is that most people will cancel their accounts, so they'll either lower the rate or discontinue services (hopefully giving refunds). So if you have the money and really don't want to switch, it could be worth it to pay for one year and see what happens.

Bumping. With all the Apple users here I would have thought some of you would be using Mobile Me. Plz don't tell me that DH and I are the only suckers to fall prey for Apples Mobile Me.

I accidentally signed up for MM when I got my iTouch and then immediately canceled when I realized it was just email type stuff. I can't imagine any scenario that would be worth me shelling out $150 for something you can get for free all over the place.

We ended up getting it for our iphones after I *ahem* lost mine. The only reason we got MM was so we could wipe our phones remotely if we ever lose them in the future. We keep our calendars, emails, etc. on our phones and I was a little freaked out that if someone found my phone they would have access to all of that. We don't really use any of the other MM features (mostly because we haven't really looked into what features it comes with.) The tracking on it is pretty good...we tested it and it tracked our phones to our house. But I'm sure that even with tracking, your chances of actually recovering a stolen iphone or computer are pretty low.

The tracking may be worth the $$ because DH is a cyclist. I hate it when he rides out alone. If he gets hurt and cant call I can track him by the phone...right?? Still - the Apple dude made it sound like MM had soooo many features - was just wondering if anyone else actually used them. Thanks!

My mom loves it (though I don't really know what she uses it for besides syncing between her laptop and the family iMac) and future FIL lives by it (he's bought every Mac product available since the company's inception). I think he uses it as backup storage and to sync all his different Mac devices. If I had an iPhone, I might spring for it, but since it's just me and my Macbook, I get by all right without it.
