  • english beagle?

DW and I are finally getting a doggy. We are very interested in a lemmon and white female beagle. Anyone have any experience with this breed? Do you recommend? Thanks.

We have a purebred beagle and LOVE her, however beagles do come with their challenges. They are barkers (or bay-ers), some apartments won't allow them because of that. They will follow their nose and not your commands 99% of the time. I recommend a fenced yard and I've only seen one beagle that actually followed an invisible fence. But they're great with kids and with good training can be a great part of the family.

My grandparents always had beagles. They are very laid back with kids, which is a plus. But, as Cheri said, they bay. A LOT. And there isn't much you can do to change that behavior.

We have a beagle next door. He's super sweet but his baying at 6 AM drives me nuts! Also, I think they can have problems with their anal glands? But maybe that's only if they have a congenital problem?

Super sweet dogs BUT the nose - their noses get them in trouble. We used to pup-sit one and she could sniff out things that would get her in trouble. She found a tied plastic grocery sack containing two unopened bags of Hershey kisses once on a lower cabinet. She was able to open the cabinet, tear through the bag and the Hershey bags to eat every single one. All without leaving a trace because she took the goods under a bed. Later that night DH noticed metal like specks in her stool. We could not find the bags at first and were freaking out because we did not know how much she ate. Fast forward, after induced vomiting, she is fine BUT scared us silly!
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!
