Is anyone else amazed at the complete lack of coverage this is receiving? I mean holy cow, even the Ryman is underwater. Has it even been declared a disaster yet?

TN flooding

I'm from Nashville, were all of this flooding is happening. Luckily, my mother by some fluke, lives in a neighborhood with no flooding. Our city is literally underwater right now. Homes right down the street from her are half way underwater.
Here's a great link from Keith Olberman

I agree it hasn't been covered near enough - everyone is talking about the oil spill which is also important but...
Anyway, I talked to a friend of mine on fb today, they just moved there a year ago, she said they are dry but it took them 12 hours to get home from Memphis on Sunday, it should have taken them 3!Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

They've had continuous coverage of the flooding in TN on the Weather Channel, which isn't really a major media outlet, I guess. But it's a major media outlet for a weather nut like me.
The lead stories on NBC Nightly News last night were (in order):
1. The unsuccessful car bombing attempt in Times Square NYC.
2. The oil spill in the Gulf.
3. The flooding in TN.
I know that the car bombing thing was a close call, but the flooding in TN is affecting far more lives at this moment. The media just immediately latches onto any story that even hints at a connection to terrorism and then exploits it to high heaven. Ugh.
Chrisada, glad to hear your mom isn't flooded out! How is she doing now? Does she have access to resources - food, water, electricity, etc.?Event coordinator, wife and therapist to a peds attending

Chrisada, I am so glad your mother is okay.
I cannot even imagine how long it will take to recover from this. Look at some of the videos on Youtube.Tara

A good friend of mine lives there. They are fine but say things are in pretty bad shape. I had no idea until I saw a few facebook posts about it this morning. Nashville has had it's share of disasters with the Tornado that went through downtown in the 90's. Sad.Wife to Hand Surgeon just out of training, mom to two lovely kittys and little boy, O, born in Sept 08.

Yeah, I have friends in Iowa City, and I got a "flood tour" a year after the fact. It looked like it was still rough going. These things are not easy to rebound from.Julia - legislative process lover and general government nerd, married to a PICU & Medical Ethics attending, raising a toddler son and expecting a baby daughter Oct '16.

Thanks everyone, my family has been out and about. I don't watch the news so have mainly seen the coverage on Facebook since most of my friends are in Nashville.
