Hussey - I thought of you all day to day as I shoveled a yard and a half of topsoil into our new raised beds.

Stellar parenting moment was when Sophie reached into the bag of composted manure and started to put it in her mouth. Yummmm.

Here - Sophie is going to be more intelligent! See, what a good parent...you are allowing your children to be brighter!! Although next time maybe she can just stick to the dirt and not the manure!! yikes!! lol

I know your pain. and the pain you'll feel tomorrow!!

Love the manure story and it's good to know that it's not the worst thing in the world!

We still have two dumptruck loads of "sandy loam" for under the (as yet unordered) sod, about a half a dumptruck load of mulch, a bit of 4 inch river rock and about a quarter of a dumptruck load of crushed granite.

But- the plants that I've planted are generally doing really well and they're blooming and look GREAT!

      What are you planting?

        I am trying this.

In one raised bed (all are 4x8) I have onions and potatos. Another has basil, radishes, lettuce, peas and cantalope. Today, I planted 24 aspagus plants (my gift to my mother) and a stack of carrots. I found a carrot seed mix that has white deep orange and purple carrots. I thought it would freak out the kids.

I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but it will be fun. I still need to build a couple of trellis systems for the peas and the melon. I am also planning some pie pumpkins and will need a trellis for those as well.
