  • Random question on medical specialties

    Hey everyone -
I have been trying to do some research to find out about different specialties, but can't seem to find the information I need. Specifically I am trying to find out about radiation oncology. Do any of you know any good sites that gives a good feel for what the specialty entails? Also, is there a place that lists the salary comparisons between the different specialties? I found it once, but haven't been able to find it again... (you'd think I'd learn to bookmark sites!).
Also - do any of you have experience with neurosurgery? How is the family life for that? My husband would love to do that, but we are wondering about the time factor... (or lack of time factor as the case may be...).
Thank you for your help and have a great day!!

    Jen,
Here are some resources that may be new to you.

    http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/2997.html
The AMA website FREIDA has information on specific residency and fellowhship programs and may have general residency info as well.

Rapunzel can better answer this but I think there is a website for radiation stuff -- http://www.auntminnie.com ???

    A physician compensation survey:
    http://www.physicianssearch.com/physician/salary2.html
This is survey that I was thinking of when I read your post. I would view this as a *very* rough guideline. It doesn't take into account regional differences in pay, which can be quite significant. Also, the site doesn't show the sample size of responses by speciality.

    Here are some others:
Not all specialties are listed --

see pg. 5 of this one (not all specialties listed):
