I want to have the carpet in the living room (the only carpet in the house) cleaned before the baby is born. What do u guys think is best. Shampooing or steam cleaning?

I'm curious to hear what the experts have to say about this. I heard that shampoo that's left in the carpet attracts more dirt, but I don't have any real experience. So far Oxi-Clean has served me well for an accident here and there.

We went with a service that did a super high temp cleaning...we had great results! I know Cheri just had hers done - not sure if she had steam or shampoo

I've only used steam cleaners. My neighbor has done that "dry" cleaning http://www.drycarpet.com/ and it's really expensive and honestly - her carpeting looks like it's been really beat up. She's neater (far) than I am, has 1 tiny dog that doesn't shed (next to my 2 hair machines), 2 smaller kids (compared to my mess machines), and her upstairs carpeting looks AWFUL. Not stained, but as though it's been loosened.

If you have anyone in your home with allergies, steam cleaning is besttogetdust out and prevent mold growth.
