  • Hopkins shooting

There's been a shooting at Johns Hopkins this morning. A doctor is down, status unknown. They are evacuating the Hospital as possible right now. I hope the doc is OK!

OK, details rolling in...Oh, no. It's a surgeon. It appears to be a CARD-THOR SURG. He's down and he's in critical condition. The shooter has taken hostages, but there's no word on who or how many.

This is so terrible. I worry all the time about something like this happening at MY job, since judges can often attract unstable and desperate people. But it never really occurred to me that it might happen at a hospital. That kind of storyline is just on TV doctor shows...

Terrible. I am praying for everyone.

Literally... Grey's anatomy ended their season with this episode. It makes me so ill. I know someone who works for JH and I hope she is safely nowhere near there. I feel selfish thinking, please don't let it be her being held hostage, when someone's son, daughter, friend, parent is in danger.

AP wire is reporting that the shooter has been subdued. Appears that the hostage crisis is over... of course, the hell is only beginning for the staff and the down doctor... Oh, I hope that there are able to take care of him.

If anyone is concerned or wants more specifics, the news is reporting that the shooting was on Floor 8 of the main building. I don't know JHH, so I don't know where that is or what it may mean.

I feel ill. Just don't understand why someone would shoot someone who is trying to save lives?? I know there could be a backstory behind this, it's too early to tell. But it is a realization for me that no workplace is safe from violence.

That's horrible. Straight out of Grey's Anatomy.

There are conflicting reports and some say the shooter isn't in custody yet. He was supposedly unhappy with how his mother was being treated and threatened to jump out the window.

Infuriating. The article I just read said the doctor is expected to "survive" but who knows whether that means he can practice or even function in everyday life.

The place where we're returning had an abortion doctor shot to death at his CHURCH a couple years back.
I can't even imagine how his wife and kids have dealt with losing their husband/dad to such violence.

                            Yeah. Scary.

ETA - The suspected shooter "is still at large." Praying for everyone.

Honestly, when I was watching the season finale all I could think was, "Great! Let's give crazy people ideas!" I was pretty put off by the episode. Because it's not really hard to walk into a hospital locked and loaded. And there's already enough of an anti-doctor, let's blame them, sue them, and punish them sentiment out there, I really felt that tv, particularly Grey's, really needed not to contribute by displaying well thought out plans. Don't get me wrong, people have to own their own actions. It's not Grey's fault. I think it's beyond lame and ridiculous that almost every commercial has a "do not attempt this" disclaimer. But apparently "disclaimer" is the world we live in and that particular episode really bothered me.

Back to reality. This is sad and terrible. I hope that everyone is alright.
