I'd like a pajama party. That would be lovely.

We have never been to DH's department holiday party because he is always working or we have nobody to watch DS. This year we could go, even though we would have to go late because of DH working. But, it seems silly to go late when we have to buy tickets to be there!! Probably a big waste of money. And I don't have a ton of energy at 9pm these days either....

We do a "company holiday party" with some of my SAHM friends and their spouses. I think it will be a lot more fun than the dept party anyway and of course is kid friendly.

You have to pay to go to the party? That's dumb!

Attendings always pay for ourselves and extra for the residents and staff at the 'big' peds party here. I've always liked that system.

DH's hospital puts on a big shindig for the attendings at the art museum here in town. It's super-swanky and not at all how we roll, LOL. This year we are planning on going. I still don't know what to wear, and it's next week!

Ugh. The holiday parties at dhs hospital are a sore point. Last year dh's department didn't have a party because they are creeps. The years before it was at the hospital and family was welcome and lots of other departments nurses came and boogied down on the dance floor. The food was kind of crap but it was a get together with free food . There are other surgical departments that have nice parties but the gen surg guys are never invited. This year one of the residents is having it at her parents giant place and has banned kids eventhough it's during the early evening. We are trying to find a sitter but if we can't we just won't go. They charge per person for our party too but the staff pay for the residents and spouses to go because they know we wouldn't go otherwise.

I think it's lame we have to pay too, but it's a big program and it aint flashy (no holiday bonus here). Anyway I just looked at the email and dinner is at 8, we have no chance of getting there before 9 so we won't go. Also dress is "funky fab disco gear". Screw that, I just wanted one more chance to wear the gorgeous dress my friend lent me for my baby shower, lol.

Am I the only one who never heard about a holiday party? Maybe Russ just never told me about one, but we've never gone to one. Maybe because his residency program was so small (only 9 residents)?

No, I hadn't either... I asked J last night if there was one, and I didn't bother to specify if it was an official one or just one of the residents throwing a party, but he said there was one, but we will be out of town for it. I don't remember there being an official one last year, but the ones last year all got snowed out, so there could have been.

I just asked Russ, he said the holiday parties were the potluck lunches they had at the clinic. So I take it back I did go to a few. But it was a casual middle of the workday thing. Usually it was a day before the holiday so the clinic was only open morning hours, eat then go home for the day.

DH's residency does a party in the conference room at the clinic and it's HUGE. Faculty serves food to everyone and their families, kids are encouraged to attend, and they bring in Santa to give out gift bags to all the little ones.

DH's department party is free (at least for residents and their families), but the real deal is that they provide coverage for EVERYONE. We were rooting for the date it ended up being, because it will get DH out of a call night!

I don't know if my new office does a party or not. But at the most I think we're looking at 2.

I've heard the owner at my job does a nice party at his home for us. So far I'm not sure if it's happening. He seems to use "the econemy" excuss every chance he gets. DH's department is doing a dinner at the jockey club. I'm working when it starts. Bot making a effort to be there.
