I don't know why this bugs me so much but for the last 5 years (number of years married) Dh's aunt and uncle keep sending us mail as dh's name and my maiden name ie Joe smith and tenacious brown...we mail them a holiday card each year and thank you cards with my no longer new married name. Why is it so difficult to respect the fact that my name is changed... Ugh! It just irks me. Any other familial pet peeves?

Pet peeve

My MIL always sends sappy cards that say "to my Son and his family". And she underlines most of the message and includes flowery motivational sentiments of her own. I know she doesn't mean it maliciously, but the overly sweet sappiness and the fact that she picks cards that emphasize familial relationships annoy me!Mom of 3, Veterinarian

My MIL shows affection by... giving me purses. Which would be fine, except she gets them out of her own closet, used.
Graduate from grad school? Used purse.
Get married? Used purse.
Announce pregnancy? Used purse.
My birthday? Used purse.
--- She doesn't really know me, or my style or taste. She just goes "shopping" in her closet, and shoves one into my hand. Giving a gift for show, and not because you know the person well, is a pet peeve of mine. It's all a display for her. So she can look like the gracious gift-giver. Oh Michelle! That's just rude. Only the hubby can be a dr. Poop to that. I know they don't mean to be mean but put some effort into it!
Oh wildfin...that's funny because my MIL always buys me jewelry for birthday and holidays from the same craft jewelry store...maybe 10% of the time she gets something I would wear....at least it's not previously wornDanielle

I get annoyed when people don't address cards to DH as Dr. if they use formal addressing. What cracks me up is that his mom who is Miss Etiquette only does it like half the time.
I would be really annoyed about all of those listed, especially the last name and the purses (WTF??) though.Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

The next time you send them a card, put her maiden name on it. If she complains, tell her you assumed that is what she prefers based on cards she sends to you.Luanne

DH is the opposite about addressing mail, he thinks it is silly to use Dr. if it isn't related to work. I say use it, you work hard for it.Luanne

Mine is a SIL who calls only for Rx. If you want your Synthroid, go to your doctor and get it, don't call us. Who is checking the labs? DH is incinsistent and will sometimes do it. The last time she called I told her to call DH because I won't refill it and I won't pass the message along. They live in another state!!!Luanne

We've gotten some holiday cards addressed as "Dr. & Mrs." and some as "Mr. & Mrs.", the latter doesn't bother me too much, as we were announced that way at our wedding. But it did bother me coming from my status-obsessed aunt and uncle, who believe me marrying a dawkter is better than their daughter marrying an auto mechanic. Maybe it is because I refuse to refer to my cousin as a doctor (she has her DPT)?Event coordinator, wife and therapist to a peds attending

DH's family is ALWAYS "jokingly" asking for scripts. Drives him nuts. They would jump at it in a heartbeat if he actually did, so they're not kidding, just trying to not seem like tools. These are the same peeps who damn near disowned him when he sued his high school girlfriend for paternity testing when she became pregnant AFTER cheating on him multiple times. Baby was eventually discovered to be his cousin's kid.
My biggest let peeve? Jerry Springer-ish assholes.
