No school tomorrow. There aren't enough sanders to get all the area school parking lots. They are all still solid ice. The roads in my town are still very icy. Only main roads got sanded. DH may actually stay home tomorrow and do what he can from home and take call.

My neighbor works for John Deere and brought home a tractor w/a plow attached and has been fixing the cul-de-sac and plowing neighbors drives for the past hour. Makes me wish I hadn't been quite so industrious with mine. At least I'll also benefit from the improved plowing in the cul-de-sac.
In other news, school has been called for the THIRD day in a row. It was sunny ALL day today, but apparently temps are supposed to plunge tonight. This will be our 6th snow day this year -- all since returning to school 1/5.

In honor of all of you who are snowed in, a little snow humor:
What's the difference between a snowwoman and a snowman? snowballs
Why was the snow man smiling? The snow blower was coming.
There's one good thing about snow, it makes your lawn look as nice as your neighbor's.
How is snow white? Pretty good, according to the seven dwarfs.

Well, the news just said that San Antonio is under a winter weather advisory starting tomorrow. With snow. Accumulations of snow. I can't think of a town less prepared for snow except maybe Key West. Honestly, people are freezing trying to get around in their layers of sweatshirts- right now it's 11 degrees with windchill. They don't have hats, coats, gloves, scarves. I actually left at lunch and went home to get extra hats and gloves for my colleague and her kids- she was stationed in Alaska and when she left the Army and moved back to Houston, she left it all up there. We've had power outages all day because they Texas Electrical Grid managers needed some of the electricity from us to send to those of you up in North Texas.
Meanwhile, my company runs what's known as "Prospect's Courtyard" at the Haven for Hope homeless campus. PCY is for those people who aren't ready to deal with their issues- they don't want help, in other words. Typically we supply mats for people to sleep on outside- we'll store their meds and take their animals to the kennel on the grounds. They can have three meals a day and we provide a shower. No questions asked. Well, needless to say, they're totally overwhelmed with everyone who finally decided to literally come in from the cold. and the police are bringing in anyone that they may find out and about. By this time, I'm sure we're at capacity and having to move people into the other areas like the chapel. (They don't allow the Prospects on to the full grounds, as the Prospects are likely using drugs or not treating their mental illness or both and can be very disruptive. Not to mention that the families are housed on the full grounds.)
Fun times for the next two days in San Antonio.

Yikes Jenn! I hope they are all okay. I was thinking about all the guys I see on access road to 75--hope they found a way to be warm.
In other news, we decided paying gobs of $$$ to heat our house to 60 wasn't worth it and ditched to go to the burbs. Currently sitting on my mommy's couch next to a warm fire, after having enjoyed homemade cookies and a guest pass to my parent's swanky gym. My place of work is still closed due to no power, so I can can work from home tomorrow without feeling guilty. Record low temps here. -6 w/o windchill & although there was only supposed to be a 2hr delay, the schools ended up closing at the last minute because buses wouldn't start. The girls are psyched about their 3rd snow day in a row.
Power companies are struggling & thousands are w/o power. I've never been w/o gas or electricity before, but I imagine it would be super sucky.Charlene~Married to an attending Ophtho Mudphud and Mom to 2 daughters

So not comparable to loss of power or anything, but we didn't get mail yesterday. It was too icy. I didn't know that the post office doesn't have an official creed promising delivery.

Michele--J said he saw the mailman on Tuesday, but he didn't come to our house. I'm assuming it was because our front porch was a icy death pit (I had to crawl up the front steps yesterday to avoid falling, so I put some salt down). If your steps are clear, maybe they'll come? or do you have a mailbox. They have to come to our front porch.Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

Our steps are clear enough, and have been. I think it's the roads in our area. Russ says it's a slippery mess when driving. I just don't think they are driving near enough to walk their routes. I actually haven't seen more than 3 cars drive on our street in the past three days.Mom of 3, Veterinarian
