4800 for everything and a full pack? I know you're not going very far but that still seems cheap - who was that through?

Mayflower, via Daryl Flood, Inc. Russ found them recommended on moving scams.com

He estimated us at 7000 lbs.

Good to know the company. I'll check them out. Did you get a quote from ABF? I got an online one for a 1100 mile move for $3500. We are in an apartment though.

I actually feel weird about people packing my stuff, but having done it twice already all by myself since having kids, I deserve it. And so do you Michele!!!

Doing the online quote from upack.com (ABF). It says 1800 for the self pack, 2800 for them to load the trailer. It estimated 16 feet of trailer space.

I had a bad experience using a company we found on moving scams. I cant remember the name right now. They way underestimated our load and didnt guarantee to come in under the estimate if we went over, all of which was news to us. Be careful.

We used United and had one amazing experience and one not amazing, but not horrible. So much depends on your movers.

I would get a few other quotes just to be sure. That does sounds way too cheap. We used Mayflower once and hated them, of course I also know people who have had good experience with them. But just be safe talk to other companies. Good luck!!

I'm getting a quote from GreenVanLines tomorrow. We really don't have much stuff. And Russ is debating getting rid of it all bc he says it's not worth 5K. Insert eye roll. Of course our 10y old crap isn't worth $5K. But to refurnish a house will cost WAY more than that!

As far as furniture type stuff goes, we have a 3-cushion couch, a 5.5 ft table w 4 chairs, a kid table, two end tables, tv stand, small computer stand, queen bed (no h/f), dresser, 2 night stands, small desk and bookshelf, two changing table/dresser combos, toddler bed and a convertible crib. Washer, dryer, fridge, chest freezer. Oh and a glider and ottoman. Grill, two bikes, mower, weed eater and 2 aquariums.

Shrug. I'm going to try to get an estimate for someone just to pack and load, Russ says he will drive the truck. (insert another eye roll)

Definitely see if you can't find any that will guarantee their quote (assuming this first one didn't). Saved our asses when we moved; they way underestimated, but we didn't have to pay any more.

When we moved for residency S was only 4 months old. I packed everything, but hired out the loading and unloading. Best money I have ever spent (besides the divorce attorney)! We used local companies on both ends and were very satisfied. We filled a honking big moving van to the gills and the 3 kids who loaded it had it done in just a couple of hours. It was the least stressful move I have ever had.

Now I'm pricing out hiring packing and loading help only. (one local estimate was only $660 for 3 guys for 4 hours) He wants to drive the truck to save money. It also means selling a car....

Can you pull the car behind the truck?

Yep, but only one car...so either the wagon or the CrapRX will have to go.
