Wow! Hmm...I probably would have just left a nasty note.

Why did he have a shovel if he owned a snowblower? (says the Texan)

You think you don't need a shovel if you have a snowblower? We have two!

I still think what he did was rude but she also could have just asked I'm sure he would have let her borrow it. During storms like that trying to buy a new shovel can be next to impossible!

Yeah, that was a bit overboard on the revenge, but the fact that she didn't return the shovel was just rude. Heck if she had borrowed it and returned it I don't think he would have cared. And Sooner, we have a few shovels and a snow blower in Kansas. You need it all.

SoonerTexan, the shovel is for the steps, porch, digging out the car--snowblowers do large flat areas.

I have three different style shovels!!! I think his revenge was genius!!!!! The only problem is that he will now have a twenty year war with said neighbor.

I learned something new! Ironically, I spent the first 5 years of my life in Chicago.

I thought his response was immature, but I couldn't believe that she stole the shovel!!! I would have maybe borrowed it (if I knew him and had a relationship with him...), used it, returned it with a note saying that I really appreciated it and I hope he wouldn't mind (I'm assuming it was late at night?) Maybe even said - "I owe you a coffee!" or something similar. But stealing it!? That was the tipper to me - that is what made her in the wrong.

If she knew her neighbor (who sounds a little intense to begin with - hello video cameras!) she probably should gone to another house to "borrow" a shovel. The snow here is also making people just Dumb!!!

Good grief. They're both immature idiots. This just makes me appreciate our awesome neighbors even more.

For goodness sake, why wouldn't she just return the damn shovel? Entitled a bit?

He said he got a new snow blower and took a passive aggressive route (ya think).
Actually I think it's great...she STOLE his shovel(against the law). If someone isn't home YOU DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING THAT BELONGS TO THEM PERIOD...let alone do it& think it's ok if you leave a note! Go buy a damn sovel or improvise.

We had our shovel break one year while shoveling. I know my neighbors pretty well. None of them would have gotten their panties in a twist if I had borrowed theirs when they were gone and then forgotten to bring it back the same day if I got side-tracked, left a note or whatever. There would never be a need though because when my neighbors see my drive isn't shoveled they come with their snow blowers. I, also spent over 2 hours one night shoveling my drive and sidewAlk and my neighbors when I knew their blower was out.

Point? Shit neighbors. Both of them.

This is one of the reasons I love my neighborhood. It is full of good people and not jerks. Seriously, it might have felt good for the man to blow in his neighbor, but it's as low class as snagging the shovel.

Seriously, what kind of a lesson did this guy think he was teaching his kids?

There are alot of unanswered questions. Did he know this person? Were they feuding neighbors before this happened? There is probably more to the story.

There is a guy in our neighborhood who I (and others) pay for handyman work. He borrowed my power washer on another neighbor's behalf without my permission (it was on my back porch, not in view of anyone not on my back porch). It was fairly new and I had only used it twice. They had borrowed it once through the handyman with my permission. I came home, ready to finish power washing my deck and it was gone. The next day it was returned by the handyman. When I went to finish my deck it was broken. I was really pissed, the only response was "it worked when we were using it". He still works with me, but I don't think he will ever take anything again without asking. I think if the same people had taken my snow shovel and not returned it I would have also OVERREACTED and used the snowblower the same way he did!!!!

I'm so w/ you Luanne...I would leave a note asking if I could borrow it & wait for permission...if I needed itbefore I got a reply I WOULD GO W/ OUT. I used to improvise w/trash can lids, coffee cans heck I have even used plastic bin lids to remove snow. I was raised that you do not take, "borrow", help yourself etc to ANYTHING that isn't yours w/ out getting permission. $#it can & does happen...like luanne's scenario. This Guy lived in a city & needed HIS shovel & it was gone! They park on the street in front of their bldgs. So as city dwellers getting plowed in from street clearing and being covered from snow blowing can be q common winter occurance. I still say it was hilarious!
