We just finished chicken parm (made by DH) and desserts of cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries (made by me!) I lit candles and put on some jazz and it was like our only little restaurant in our dining room. I think Valentine's day is fun and cute!

He brought home a dozen red roses. From the nicer grocery store (Market Street instead of Wal-Mart).

We're spending the weekend in LA since DH is here taking CS. Today we did the walk of fame & are too tired to go to Santa Monica like we planned so we'll do that later. Instead of fighting crowds @ overpriced restaurants we're going to grab something from a drive thru & watch a movie in the hotel. DH surprised me with a card & my favorite chocolate this morning hidden in my makeup case. Very sweet!

I have to admit though that I'm really missing the kiddos. I woke up this morning at 4AM crying because I had a nightmare our youngest was missing. I'm used to celebrating with them.

We both got Valentines- actually Rick drew a fabulous drawing for Nikolai of all of the fun things that they are going to do when he gets home. (with some editorializing of course, like the picture of them riding bikes has "look, no training wheels!" with an arrow to dude's bike.) It was really sweet.

Mine was nice but not hand-drawn!

I got these and two cards from DH:

I never expect anything on V day, and am in the camp that thinks it's ridiculous that we have to have a day devoted to what we should be just doing at random times....and not feel forced into doing something on this one day. But I'm not going to complain....the flowers are beautiful and make my house smell yummy.

Nothing. No cards. No flowers. It's my fil's birthday today, so we aren't supposed to celebrate anything but him!

Russ surprised me w some chocolates he picked up on the way home! So sweet! Especially since he was stuck late with a train wreck of a case.

Dh brought flowers for I think the third time since I have known him. He also used his Dick's sporting goods gift card he got to buy me something. What a sweetie!

DH has been wanting a bed warmer for months. I got him a card. Guess what he got me for VD? Yep, the bed warmer that *he* wants.

Patrick would call that a "for you for me gift!".

He gets a pass every VD. We don't usually do anything because of all the other stuff going on in February, but I think it's hilarious that he got himself something and gave it to me as a gift. What's next? Am I getting new rolling tool boxes for Christmas?

Although, considering how well he did on other stuff I should just keep my mouth shut.

We spent our first married Valentine's Day on a cruise ship in Nassau. Well, part of the day was spent at the waterpark at Atlantis. Once we got back on the ship, we watched the evening show. We also managed to separate ourselves from the others in our travel party for dinner that evening. We had a bottle of muscato (which we also drank on our wedding day) and the waiter even sent us an extra Valentine's Day dessert. We exchanged cards, but no gifts. DH was sweet and bought a bottle of champagne for myself and the three other women in our travel party at the champagne bar after dinner. It was a really good Valentine's Day, but I still prefer making dinner at home together and cuddling on the sofa afterwards.

He took me to Tei Tei Robata (yay Japanese cuisine!) and I got a single red rose. It was a great night - I let him order and surprise me. Everything was delicious.
