I'm trying to do some research to find out for my husband's specialty what kind of rates we can expect in our state and would like to compare it to other states. I did a search online and pulled up tons of news articles but nothing specific--does anyone know where to find this out?

    Sue,
I haven't looked for this information before. Maybe try calling the national organization or association for his speciality? They may collect that information or know who does. Or maybe the AMA has information by state and specialty on that since it is such a hot topic right now.

      Sue,
You could try this link for some general information (esp Tables 5 and 8):
      http://aspe.hhs.gov/daltcp/reports/mlupd1.htm

It looks like a group called Medical Liability Monitor puts out a report with all the rates by state and speciality -- but the report costs $399. Your state's Medical Society (or whatever it is called) might just subscribe to this newsletter. You could give them a call and see if their librarian would share the information with you or see if you can go copy it (your husband might have to be a member). It *might* be available at the med school library as well. And national organization for his speciality might subscribe as well.
