graduation/2nd birthday party?

I have a party dilemma and I hope some of you have some ideas! Well, our time in May is very limited. One of the other interns is having a baby and one is getting married making my husband Q2-3 May and June. ugh. anyway, that is beside the point.
May 15th is my graduation day and my daughter's 2nd birthday. I have gone back and forth about having a party for either, but my husband really wants to at least get the family together for my graduation.
Anyway, Would it be weird to have a combine 2nd birthday party for DD and graduation party for me? The guest list would be almost the same. We would probably mostly invite family to her party who rarely see her and would like an opportunity, along with maybe one or two of her best friends.
I just don't want to seem like I'm trying to rob people, although I of course would not expect gifts for either occasion. Is that tacky to combine two completely different celebrations?

I think it sounds like a great idea! Everyone will probably be glad to be able to celebrate both occasions without having two time commitments.

I agree with the ladies. Close friends and family will love to get together for any reason to celebrate, so why not have 2?

We used to do this all the time. Once we even did a three-fer. It's was my ailing grandmother's birthday, my sister's graduation from college, and my graduation from high school. It was fabulous. The entire family was there and it was the last time we all saw our grandmother enjoying herself because she passed away a couple weeks later.

I've been to many casual parties like this. In fact it's common practice to go to a graduation party where one finds they are celebrating more than one graduate at the party and it may range from K-12, to college and tech schools. Several members among my extended family share the same birthday. It became a reason to hold the annual "family reunion". We'd all get together and celebrate several birthdays as once. One summer party I was invited to was tropical themed at this amazing house on a hill with land around it and a three layered pool with waterfalls and man made arches that looked like natural rock. Everyone dressed in Hawaiian clothes and they served tropical beverages. There were several reasons behind the celebration like it was summer and I think it was 6 people's birthdays and some cousins of the family were visiting and celebrating their college graduation from AZ State. I can recall many examples like this with combination parties and reasons to celebrate! They always make great fun.
