  • I've had it.....

In the last week, we have had to spend $2000 for repairs on one of our cars and on our home air conditioner. My husband has worked every weekend since we got back from Chicago (June 12) and his schedule is not likely to improve. He is getting ready to take Boards in November and is totally stressed out. I am doing Weight Watchers and am totally HUNGRY! We went to our neighborhood pool Sunday evening and I sat on one of the chairs there and got a rash all over the back of myself (legs included) from the vinyl on the chairs --- and yes, the rash is in stripes. (Go ahead and laugh.) It itches like hell.

And as I type, it is 106 frickin' degrees here. It has been over one hundred most of the time for the past three weeks.

On August 3, DH and I are getting some time alone while the kids are with their grandparents in KS, then we will head up there for some time with family, coming back on the 13th, so there is relief in sight.......but can I just say I CAN'T WAIT MUCH LONGER!!!!!!!

Good grief!! Hang in there. If I were in your shoes I would probably take as cold a shower as I could possible stand and then change into my most comfortable pair of shorts and t-shirt, point a fan directly at the sofa and sit there with a sugar-free popsicle (or 3) and read a magazine for an hour or so. That type of thing makes me feel better, anyway.

Oh, wait, unless you got your air conditioner fixed (did I misread it?) in which case I would skip the fan and make it a lukewarm shower.

Goodness!!! I hated counting calories....I always felt hungry...now that I'm up 10 pounds since the wedding only 3 months ago 8O I have to start counting again and I'm dreading it. I can't believe how hot it is there! I thought it was brutal here....geez...you win. When it gets eally hot here all I do is lay on the tile with my dog...but those popsicles sound awesome.

Do you have a Cold Stone Creamery near you? They are giving away free ice cream on Thrusday from 5-8 pm...

That just sounds like no fun at all. A rash, the heat, and a grumbling belly.....with big expenses for the car and air conditioning to top it off! Geez!
I'll bet that August 3 can't come soon enough.
I think the Coldstone Creamery sounds like a great idea!

Not only is there not a Coldstone Creamery, there is not even a Dairy Queen in this town. There is an ice cream place called Braum's though (I think they are only in north TX, OK, and southern KS) and I got a small strawberry shake today. (It was delicious, by the way, and worth any weight gain that might occur. :P )

I saw the weather forecast and apparently we are going to have a "cold front" move through tonight and the high tomorrow is only supposed to be 91.

I can't wait to move back to Indiana.

Thanks for your thoughts --- and yes, our home air conditioning is fixed, thank God. What on earth did people down here do before there were air conditioners?

              Oh Sally,
I'm so sorry. I say make a blender of frozen Mango Margueritas, or any other fruit you like, a plate of Nachos and a fan!!!! As a matter of fact, I'll join you.

How could a town that hot not have a DQ? That is not right!

I don't know what people did there before AC. I wonder that about Denver all the time -- most older homes do not have AC which isn't *that* bad but we wear a lot less clothing than women in the 1920s. How did they stand it?

Sorry you were hit with all those expenses at once! Yuck!! Tell that heat mieser to go on vacation! Just move back to Indiana so I will know someone! They have Marble Slab Creamery here! We have been 4 times in 3 weeks. BTW, my OB practices in a small group of 3 OBs across the street from St. V's on 86th. She took the place of one of the founders of the practice that recently retired. One of the remaining OBs also started the practice 27 years ago and may be close to retirement. I will keep my ears open to see about this guy's future plans.

I love Marble Slab -- there were several of them in San Antonio. I have been to the one you are talking about --- it opened after we moved away, but we went and took my Dad once a couple of years ago when we were visiting.

What is your OB's name? Did she train at St. V's? I appreciate the offer to keep your ears open. DH is in the beginning stages of job hunting and is collecting contacts. It is kind of hard since he did a military residency -- he is contacting old med school friends that he knows stayed in the area and either did OB or are in related fields (Family Practice, Peds) and might hear of openings. He sure loved rotating at St. V's during med school.

This is from another thread, but when I nannied up around where you are, some of the kids went to preschool at a church close by. I will let you know if I remember the name of it. It seemed like a pretty good program.

Have you been to Arni's yet?

Yuck, Sally...and dieting on top of it????? You are stronger than I am...I would have already found this to be an excuse to nibble away...

We'll start counting down the days for you until August 3rd....the reward is in sight.

106 DEGREES??? Wow.....I forgot how hot it can get in Texas.....

Run out to the grocery store and treat yourself to a weight watchers ice cream dessert..... and you know what....I'll run over to dairy queen and eat two...one for me and one for you

Hey, come on up to Minnesota and enjoy more reasonable 80 degree days. You have a place to stay and (unfortunately) there is an ice cream store within walking distance from our house.

Here's hoping for a break for you all soon.

Oh Sally, I really, really feel for you! You have every reason to be anxious for some vacation time. The rash is a misery that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

I also have to add that I am envious of one thing you mentioned: Braum's. I LOVE Braum's and it is the one place I miss more than anything - there just aren't any good burger and ice-cream places up here!!! Texas really does know what to do with their cow-products. sigh

If it makes you feel any better we have to spend $800 on our car this week. Hang in there.
