  • What is the take home message here?

I have so much to do this week! So. Much! This morning, when I got home from taking the boys to school, I noticed some water on the floor in the kitchen near the center island. I mopped it up with a towel and then headed into the living room to pick up Zoe's toys. DH took her late to school AGAIN today and while she was waiting, she removed every. single. toy from two toy boxes and spread them out all over the floor. Right. So the doorbell rang and Amanda opened the door. I got sidetracked by someone who once again was privy to the incredible mess that is my house. I sat on the floor cleaning up toys before making us a coffee. When I walked into the kitchen, I noticed more water. I thought that I had done a bad job of cleaning it up. By the time my guest left, I had forgotten about it. I was late to run a few errands and then meet Thomas. When I got home later, there was more water. I berated myself for forgetting about it and noted that it seemed to be more widespread than I remembered. I was talking to Kelly when I realized that as I sopped the water up from around the center island, more trickled out.

I checked the dishwasher. Nothing. It seemed to be coming from below the center island. I went downstairs and checked the guest room right below it and the entire light fixture is filled to the rim with water! Full!

I finally pulled out the fridge because I noticed ONE small trickle of water leading what I thought was TO the fridge. Oh. You know where this is going. The FRIDGE is leaking.....the new fridge. Un. Be. Lievable. Do not buy Sears people. No, no, no!

It was a slight trickle which is why we must not have noticed it for awhile.

I just signed up for Consumer Reports .... do you want my user ID/pword so you can check out your next purchase? I've got to say, I'm not impressed w/Sears either. I bought dh a grill there 2.5 years ago, and we just had to replace it.

The only brand we've ever been happy with at Sears is Craftsman and I have to say even that hasn't been as good the last few years.

          That sucks Kris!

We had a plastic icemaker water line to our fridge spring a slow leak UNDER THE FLOOR, which the new insulation we'd put in the crawlspace wicked right up. We didn't notice until the bottoms of the surrounding walls started getting soggy. HUGE mess, but insurance covered most of the cleanup (we still haven't replaced the insulation in the crawlspace). The guy who replaced the icemaker water line put in copper, said he NEVER puts plastic lines in for exactly that reason.

Weird thing about Florida: no copper water lines. Something in the water here makes them bad. Our house actually has PVC.

Ug! I'm so sorry about the water, but hopefully you've caught it early enough that nothing is too badly damaged...

Yup our brand new fridge from Sears would leak water when we pressed the water button. It was missing a part.

It turns out it wasn't the fridge after all!!!!

When we had the floors, etc done, they pulled out our refrigerator and for some reason ended up replacing our copper tubing with plastic. I don't know why. They came back today and spent the entire afternoon in our house re-tubing our fridge, getting water out of light sockets, etc. They are doing all repairs for free because it was their fault. They told us that it has probably been leaking for a few weeks very slowly and that all of those times that I walked by the fridge and said "hey, who dropped ice cubes/water on the floor" it was the water trickling out from beneath.

They are a really reputable business and shit happens. We're just glad that they were able to come ASAP AND that they realized it was their error and ADMITTED it to us!

                          Phew!

We have fans going downstairs and hopefully things are sorted now.

At least a serious problem was averted. Thank God we had tile floors installed and we caught it before there was damage to cabinets etc.

In all likelihood this is an easy fix.

                          PHEW!
