  • WWYD - a day all to yourself!

My DH has promised me a day all to myself tomorrow! No cooking, no taking care of sick and whiney kids - just whatever I want to do for a whole day.

Sadly, I'm at a loss as to how to spend it. I thought about getting a massage but the kids have been extra clingy lately and I don't think I can bear to have one more person touching me. I thought about getting my nails done but I don't want to have to chit chat with someone I'll never see again. I want to be alone and I want it to be quiet!! Or at least - I don't want to have to talk to anyone or take care of anyone else's needs.

I think I"m going to hit the gym for an exercise class or two and then a movie and popcorn. With butter. And then maybe a place with free wi-fi so that I can watch some TV online.

What would you do with a day all to yourself?

Honestly? I would go for the massage. I totally get the whole "touched out" part, but a massage and a pedi are my favorite indulgences. Otherwise, I would find a coffee shop with arm chairs and chill for a while.

Get a pedi and bring headphones

I like the movie idea, though

When I have a day to myself I get a pedicure and I bring a book so its more obvious that I don't want to chat. I also go find a comfy chair in a bookstore and veg. Shop for myself by myself though I usually end up buying the kids something to.

Go out to eat and just enjoy not cutting someone else's food into bite sized pieces. The movie and popcorn thing sounds amazing. Also a bookstore and coffee. I would love to just do everything realllllly slowly. That, or I would ask him to take everyone out and leave me at home all day. Then the options are endless!

I'd go shopping for something(s) for myself, then to a bookstore/coffee shop and sit. Quietly. By myself.

I'd do the pedi ( the book / headphones approach works - sometimes I feel like a snot, but I tip well). Then a movie.

Haha, I'm finding myself with a random day off from work that I have to use within the next two weeks (not convenient), and I am planning an elaborate field trip to visit historic sites and parks. But I am not normal. It sounds like quiet relaxation is your best bet.

First, I would wake up and actually drink all four cups of coffee that I've made (half or more usually comes w/ me to work) and read ALL of the morning newspaper. I might do a yoga class before breakfast, or just have a light breakfast and go then.

I would then go to the grocery store or Farmer's Market, depending on what day it is. At the Farmer's market there's a fabulous bookstore, and a fabulous kitchen store so I'd wander about those places, too.

I'd likely go get a massage, but a sports massage where it hurts to get the lumps and knots out of my back.

Ideally, I'd go home, take a nice long shower and then go sit by my pool and read books and magazines until my brain is full. Then I'd go make dinner with whatever fabulous stuff I found at the store. Pour a nice glass of wine and read my book while eating my dinner, and then sit outside on the porch, wave and chat w/ the neighbors and go to bed.

In fact, I get an entire month of freedom starting on June 11. (the one way ticket for the dude has been purchased!)

                          @ Jenn,
Your post makes me want a pool. DH thinks it's not practical where it's only summer for like 2 months out of the year. What does he know?

                            Hijack:

I would never, ever have a pool again. They're a ridiculous amount of work (that I pay someone to do) and the amount of time we're in the pool does not equal the amount of time and money spent maintaining the pool.

To add to the hijack... I love having a pool. I love it. It is a lot of money for upkeep, but my kids are in it at least twice a week, and in the summer, every day. I definitely wouldn't want one in a different climate. In fact, I think that Florida is the ONLY state where having a pool adds to your property value. In most other places, having a pool actually detracts from it.

If I had a day to myself, I would want to do all kinds of things. The truth is that I would probably pitter it away so fast that only a small portion of what I wanted to do would get done. I think a movie and a pedicure would be great.
