I think they just flood if you try to put one in.
That and the soil moves too much. Some people have them, but you basically have to dig WAY into the ground, replace all the dirt, and go from there.

FYI--the SPC has issued a high risk from Oklahoma to South-Central Kansas. Be careful today LadyMoreta & Mrs K!

      http://www.spc.noaa.gov/

If it tells you anything, there have only been 3 other "high" risk days this spring, with the following outcomes:

      • Apr. 16: "Carolina Outbreak" (69 tornadoes...32 in NC...13 in VA...26 killed)
      • Apr. 26: "Mid-South Outbreak" (56 tornadoes....1 killed in AR)
      • Apr. 27: "Southeast Outbreak" (232 tornadoes...315 killed)

A "moderate" risk is enough to get the chasers out in force, a "high" risk is like telling them Disneyland moved to Oklahoma

Not gonna lie--I wish I was able to go chasing today, but I hope if there are any bad storms the outcome is not quite so deadly. Luckily, these areas are very "tornado aware" and there tends to be really good news coverage. Today would be an AWESOME day to the play the Gary England drinking game.

Ugh, I have a playgroup today, but I don't think they have a storm shelter... Thinking of canceling and hiding out here...

Holy crap. I am so glad that we have both of you storm watchers. It makes it easier for me to be complacent. I hope that everyone makes it through the next couple of days okay.

Any ideas why the weather is so awful this year? We have had horrible storms here already, which is very early for us. That and apparently, we are no longer entitled to actual sunshine.

I think you're okay if you get home before 4. Stuff is going to start blowing up around 3 or 4. Just make sure your hubby gets home safe. I'd tell him to take sideroads if there are storms already out there on the way home because people do STUPID things on the highway during storms. I worry about that in Dallas. The gridlock in the interstates from 4-6 is just a bloodbath waiting to happen on days like this.

Mom says multiple vorteces. She and Dad are going to hang out in the storm shelter later. Gary hasn't told them to take cover yet, but she thinks it's going to be a night like May 3rd in '99. That is serious...
And yet... All the way out here, I'm kind of bummed that I'm missing it all. Pretty sure that makes me a weirdo. Not going to tell DH, as moving closer to tornadoes already makes him nervous.

They are live streaming KFOR coverage on The Weather Channel of a large tornado on the ground near Piedmont, OK. It's crazy! There is a storm chaser following it and it is so scary looking - the phone lines were snapping and the poles were dangling over the car. He had to make a fast U-turn to get out of there. And they had a helicopter on it too!! I thought that was the most insane thing I've ever seen.

ST, you were right - OKC is definitely under the gun in the time frame you suggested. Stay safe LadyM and wildfin's parents!!

We're good so far. Went underground for a bit. My playgroup moved to our shelter.

DH is on call and safe at the hospital. Hope everyone else is safe!

We had a tornado touch down here last night! My two older kids and I were at a lacrosse picnic and the weather started looking strange and purple. We packed up and started driving home. The sky turned black and it sounded like a freight train. We got home and told my mom to grab the baby and headed toward the basement. We lost three roof shingles and two trees. I live in a town that is 2.8 square and it was mentioned specifically as being in the path. All day long people have been calling. We got our power restored this afternoon. I am so glad that it wasn't worse than this!
