  • Heat Wave!

It's 12:45PM and it is 98 degrees with a heat index of 122 (!!) here. I don't think I've ever seen a heat index that high here, 115 every once in awhile, but never over 120. It was definitely very warm when I went for blood work at 9AM, already over 90 degrees!!

Oh, and today is my brother's 13th birthday. He is having a friend party from 5PM - 9PM tonight at their swim club (which he asked DH and I to come to) and then a family party tomorrow. There is shade around the edges of the pool, but the pool gets constant sun. So I guess I will wear my bathing suit and get into the water at 8:30PM? The pool temp will probably be 85 degrees.

I hope everyone else is finding ways to beat the heat!!

Holy buckets! It did not ever get that hot here these past few days. Stay cool! Our heat index went up to 111 at some point, but anything over 95, and the AC just can't keep up. Have fun at the party - the water may or may not be as refreshing as you'd like

99 degrees today, 101 yesterday. Heat index somewhere around 115. We're on vacation and staying with family. In their 120-year-old house. That doesn't have air-conditioning.

Thank goodness we're going home tomorrow!

Wow!! That is rough, especially when you are on vacation. Hope you have found ways to stay cool when you aren't in the house and very glad to hear you are headed back home to a house with AC!!!

It's now up to 102 with a heat index of 127. The pool party location is somewhat cooler - 100 with a heat index of 118. I went out to get the mail 2 hours ago and I felt like I had just opened the door to the oven. It's nasty out there, I don't know how you folks who get this on a regular basis can deal with it.

yeah its ridiculous here. I took the kids to the splash park and after being out of the water for just a minute or so our skin was completely dry. I laid my soaking wet clothes out in the sun and they were pretty much dry in 30 minutes.

One of our A/C units died two days ago and DH freaked out (our house is on the market, remember?)! We have dual zone, and it was the upper-level zone, so we had cool air to be in. When the A/C guy came to fix it, there is a part that many people have had go out this week because it basically just boiled in the heat. $200 and all is well now. I did have to bring the kids in around 10 am because it was too hot to keep playing in the sprinklers. We'll go back out around 5.

Heat wave + new pool = lots of kid bribing opportunities.

"You guys wanna swim? Hmmm, doesn't look like chores are done yet..." results in the fastest, most accurate kid scramble ever.

It is awful here in STL. Heat index is over 100. I have had to walk the girls to nursery school then go jogging at 6:00 AM. It is too hot by 8:00 AM.

Honestly, it is screwing up my circadian (sp?) rhythm...!

I don't think we're technically in the range for this one, but it has been hot here for weeks. With lots of afternoon thunderstorms that have kept the humidity way higher than it ought to be. It has made me really grateful that our house has central air. Many here don't.

Yeah, ours was built in 1952. I'm sure it didn't originally have central air.
