Thanks Laurie! I don't carry my kindle with me, but I always have the phone, so it will be nice to be able to sync between them.

Well, it's a done deal ... for one month anyway. I am officially sitting next to my little red T-mobile $20 piece of junk. I forwarded my iphone to it. I'm allowing myself iphone access now only when I jog or travel.
In all honesty, I just want to break the addiction to cyber - stuff. I have had to completely walk away from google +, facebook, and refuse to even look at pinterest. I just don't need one more thing to take me out of the hear and now. I feel like I let my technology do that to me.
So ... we'll see how this goes! LOL If I actually make it a month, I want a prize!

I've been making an effort to step away from the phone when I shouldn't be on it...ie out to dinner with the kids. I don't do it at home, why at a restaurant? (because I'm bored waiting for food) I'll never be able to give it up completely because it's just too handy. That said, don't even TRY to take my iPad. That goes just about everywhere with me. The only things it needs are a camera (I have the 1.0) and a headset so you could use it as a phone. Then I would ditch the phone completely. Clearly I don't talk on the phone much.
Kris, pinterest is like crack.

Lol. I love my iPhone. I'm not ever going back.
I only have to use the computer for photos and some bill paying (it's easier to pay bills on the computer and log them into my iPhone app all at the same time.
We got the iPhones for the ease of looking up stuff and keeping track of meds when ds was diagnosed with diabetes. I'm constantly amazed how much I use it but I don't use it during meals...
Anyway- good for you Kris but This Girl won't admit she has a problem--- I'm happy to stay an addict in denial!!Peggy
Aloha from paradise! And the other side of training!

LOL ... everyone here cracks me up!
I love my iphone too. That's the problem. I went from it being really cool and loving it and the apps to checking it all. the. time. I started realizing that if we were out to dinner or something, my hand was heading for my phone every couple of minutes. For what? To jump on here and check out new posts .... see if I got a new email ... answer a text ... I feel like it went from being something wonderful to becoming all-consuming. When I started looking everywhere for internet on vacation and checking it in the car ... (hangs head in shame) I knew it was time to stop. I want to be present in my life and I was letting technology get in the way. Also ... not focusing on the road? No.
So I plan on taking my iphone jogging with me and having it at home. But. For the next month, my number is forwarded to the little red phone that will be in my car. I will take that with me and then there will be no checking when I drive, eat out with my husband, or vacation.
Once I rein it in ... I'll give it back to myself! For now, I'm grounded.

I have a little POS phone and an iPod, as does DH. A data plan has never been in the budget and it likely never will, but that's probably a good thing because I have a tendency to over-do technology even in our low-tech household. For example, I am on my laptop for about an hour every morning and check it all day; I also admit to being pretty glued to the iPod when we have a wireless hotspot if we're out to dinner or something.
We take a week's vacation at least every 3 months, to a spot where there is NO coverage. No cell, no internet, not even a landline or cable. We can walk a block to get a super slow wireless hotspot and that's it. That vacation always resets me and helps me to reconnect with daily life, other activities with the kids and my own hobbies, and helps me realize that the world doesn't end if I get behind on reading G+ or Facebook or Ravelry or iMSN, or even if it takes me a day to get to my email. I've also heard of a lot of families instituting "internet Sabbath", with everyone in the household unplugging for a weekend or a day every week. You're not alone feeling like it's all become too much!Alison

My phone is my lifeline. I don't have it out during the day at work, but other than that, it keeps me organized, in touch with my older two and DH, and provides a way for me to catch up on email (work and home), this place, Facebook, and the headlines as I am doing the endless running of kids to practices, etc. I almost never watch tv, listen to the radio, or turn on my laptop, but my iphone is essential!Wife of an OB/Gyn, mom to three boys, middle school choir teacher.
