I can do spiders, but Chicago had some of the biggest cockroaches and rats that I have ever seen! I once saw a rat that was about the size of a small cat run across the street. YIIIIKES!

DH did his fellowship in Texas and he says the bugs there are horrible! Some of the things he described give me the heebie-jeebies. Yes, we have spiders in PDX, but that's because we have a lot of trees. I'll take spiders any day over cockroaches and scorpions!

In Texas we do have Tarantulas. Came across one crossing the road once. Came across a couple of scorpions too. I can handle the bugs and the rodents and even scorpions but the spiders make me act like when an elephant sees a mouse in a cartoon. I can manage around the little ones, the white ones and even the daddy long legs. It's the fast dark colored ones and sometimes with menacing multi-colors and threatening shapes that freak me out. This morning I saw a big one while eating my breakfast and I felt sick to my stomach and quickly lost my appetite. There are so many of them I'm starting to ignore them if they mostly stay put in their webs and other people aren't so bothered with them here. Nothing like cultural immersion for adapting to my environment quickly.

What spiders bother everyone? We have tons of daddy long legs- more in Maryland than in Washington state tho. I dong really notice more spiders out here in Washington than back east in Maryland.

I don't mind the daddy long legs. Its the creepy crawly black spiders that creep me out - especially when they're in my house!

All spiders scare me, too! If they're outside and not too close to the door, they get to live. I grew up in a place with tarantulas and scorpions. Both are awful!

I would host a gathering at our house any time that works for everyone else. We can barbecue and enjoy the late summer. DH and I are heading to Canada next week for a urology conference, but any time the last week of Aug or first week of Sept works for us.

My hubby has almost the entire last week of Aug off, so that would work best for me. Is this going to be spouses only, or family type get together?

I talked to dh about it. With my early morning schedule, his new work schedule, Ramadan this month, looking for a new apartment by Sept and then buying a car he said we could maybe think about a trip for a meet up in October. Sorry if we can't make it this year. We'll have to meet up the next time around.
