Plus, like you said, big earthquakes are so rare here that it's going to get a lot of coverage. Now I'll bet it's all about the hurricane, which is also incredibly rare and has the potential to be so much more destructive.

And there was a lot more damage than just some flooding due to broken pipes, most of it confined to the area around Richmond. There was damage to the National Cathedral, as well as the Washington Monument. Much further north, there are spotty reports of damage, such as the City Hall in my hometown, and various other buildings up and down the East coast. But otherwise, everything is back to normal.
You know what, that's great that the most people and the financial center, blah blah blah is on the east coast but if television stations are going to market news (like NBC Nightly) as a NATIONAL news program then they should cover news across the country. I get the coverage of the huricane because it is affecting several states and can be catastrophic and lots of warning is god.

I do know there was some minor damage and its to bad that such things as the National Cathedral were damaged but when it happened you would have thought it was the end of the world.

I think they did pretty good tonight, it was about 5-8 minutes of coverage for the hurricane? I heard that the cable news networks went beserk with their coverage of the earthquake, it was overkill. I think their coverage on most things is overkill, i.e. Casey Anthony, etc. I missed most of the coverage, seeing as we were in car heading home from camping. We tried to listen to a news station on Sirius/XM, but it was useless. We got all of our info from social media and our smart phones.

I absolutely agree with you regarding national news programs. And as much as I heart Brian Williams, I think he is a little biased towards East Coast news, being a Jersey boy and all.

        I love Brian Williams too

I hate the east coast bias in the media. It pisses me off to now end. Every week I claim I'm going to write a letter to espn to remind them that not everybody loves the Yankees or the red sox. Sorry, tangent.
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

I'm an East Coast girl and the Yankees/Red Sox/Duke/UNC bias of ESPN drives me insane. At least you didn't live in the NYC media market for 8 years - the Yankees hype is ridiculous, and the Mets are merely an afterthough or 10 seconds of doom and gloom during the 11PM news. So glad I moved back to my home media market.
