http://www.nrmp.org/fellow/match_nam...tal/about.html Apparently, I am out-of-the-loop after 8 years. Neonatology fellowships are now a match system. It wasn't in 2000. They are three years long including research and clincial time. To apply for the boards, you need to have a published paper in a peer-refereed journal or some kind of education. I think a couple people did an MPH degree or something. I would use these links to from Scarlett to get educated. I can tell you how our fellowship was and what it is like to work in a NICU as an attending.

Phoebe:
We know about the process of NICU fellowship application. Just not quite sure whether cincinnati will be affordable for living and how competitive and or malignant a course can be. Sometimes, big hospital names can be daunting because the people there are less friendly and supportive. Also, i want to estimate the amount of $$ needed for nicu fellowship applications and interview. Any ideas how much would that be? We set aside 10k for this purpose (this is somewhat overestimating). But i rather be safe than sorry.
Alison,
Yes. Ditto!! We got married in a courthouse too and just took oaths and sign papers. That was it. No lunch, dinner or gathering cause we had to fly from our home country to US for residency within 3 weeks. I am not a very materialistic person. Only owns 2 pairs of shoes and less than half a closet of clothes. The ring 'need' is also partly caused by chats with my shopping and diamond addict mum. She kept saying i married myself cheap (i am the eldest, so they kind of expected some form of wedding) and that i throw myself to my DH, not demanding any ring or celebration. That made me very upset. I am a level headed person, i don't get spending 20k for weddings too. But we did spend like 2k for our mini honeymoon in new york and that was amazing! But, all that aside, I will spend some money for my ring wishes, just much lesser and maybe a couple of years later.Match Day was the happiest day of my life... followed by my wedding day...

I'm sort of in the same place you are except we didn't get rings at all. I didn't really care at the time and he said we will get nice ones later. It will be 2 years soon. We have talked about it and he says he wants to be able to buy me the ring I deserve which sounds sweet right? I like to look around too, my fave is a Tiffany's 1C but I would never ask him to buy it even if we had the money because it is ridiculously priced. My best friend's brother bought his wife a 10,000 ring and they did the huge catholic wedding, on a mattress salesman salary (he might be a really good salesman.) I'm sure he will be paying on that for a long time. She is very picky and her parents have always spoiled her. I guess if I was like that I could pressure DH into debt... but I will just wait

I said yes without a ring. The ring came later, and the center stone was in an heirloom piece that MIL had. Otherwise, there would have been no way I have the ring I now wear. Too much $$.Wife to Family Medicine attending, Mom to DS1 and DS2

DH paid for my ring out of his savings he had from living with his parents while we were dating. Only 2/3 carat, but it's heart-shaped and has rubies guarding it (what I really wanted as my solitaire). I love it. It means so much that he thought to do a heart-shape (I love love love hearts), when I had said nothing about a heart-shape.Veronica
