This really is so overwhelming. Thanks for all the advice. I'm not sure I'll ever be a full face foundation girl. Baby steps. I've ordered the Benefit Cosmetics eye primer, some brushes and two shadows - a brown pallet and purple pallet. I don't like heavy eye shadow but some is nice. By the way - how often and how do you clean your makeup brushes? Mild soap and water? After every use or does it depend on what you use it for?

I use shampoo to clean my brushes. My shampoo is pretty mild, but if yours isn't you could use baby shampoo. I clean my brushes twice a year.

I used to use the Potion Eye Primer and I agree it's great! But with 3 kids I need a FAST routine and the cream shadow I use works the same but gives me more color. I tend to over do the neutrals.

I haven't found a foundation primer that doesn't clog my pores and cause me to break out. I'll try the Smashbox one next time. But again, my goal is FAST right now and an extra step isn't fast.

I wash my make-up brushes a few times each year (depending on use) with either shampoo or my super-gentle face wash (Cetaphil). Then I shake them out well and allow them to air dry while standing up on the non-brush end to avoid mis-shaping. I usually put them into my toothbrush holder to dry.

Even though the people (guys included) working at Mac are sporting some craaaaaaazy make-up, they seem to know their stuff and have always helped me with a more "natural" look.

I did this/do it for big events, to get new ideas. I am a natural, clean look girl myself, so Clinique was the way to go for me.

I'm a Mary Kay girl for the most part- I love their skin care products. The foundations have the yellow problem that Rapunzel referenced- that is 100% correct. I can wear their stuff in the summer when I have more color. I have yet to find a foundation that does everything I need it to do- I'm too old for minerals- or my skin is too dry- whatever is the reason they don't work and I don't like how they feel.

I used to like Presciptives - their custom matched stuff. Clinique looks too gray or too yellow on me. I don't know- I have a big huge fundraiser to go on Friday night so I'm going to get my hair done and then I'm hitting Sephora on the way home.

I'm reading this with interest, but any more than three makeup products at a time seems like a lot of work to me! How much time do you all spend on this? Like, if I got good at it, could I still spend <5 minutes on makeup before work in the morning?

Lol, I spend far too much time on my face when I get ready! If I were to do both hair AND makeup, I'm looking 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get out the door. Most days though I usually only spend a half an hour on makeup, but it'll still take me at least an hour to get out the door. I've found doing my hair takes me much longer than my makeup, probably because I have a ton of it and I'm not as skilled at doing it. I often complain that my biggest time suck is eyebrow management. Between plucking the strays and filling in the sparse areas, it takes me a good 15 minutes daily and unfortunately that's a must do even on natural days. I've been heavily considering getting them tattooed. I'll start another thread about that so I don't hijack here.

As for brushes, my brush set is from Mary Kay. It retails for $45, but you shouldn't pay more than $25 to get a new one from EBay. I probably wash them semi annually and they've lasted me years! Consider it an investment.

If I'm just going to take the kids somewhere, etc, I can get it done in less than 10 minutes. For that, I do foundation, blush, mascara, eyeshadow, and lipstick. Out for the night? Maybe 20 minutes, 30 tops. For that, I do concealer, foundation or powder, blush, lip liner, lip stain, lip stick, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara. I'm the kind of girl that gets annoyed if I'm in the shower for more than 10 minutes - I just feel like it's a waste of time (and maybe this is why I have a problem relaxing).

What brand of false eyelashes do you use?

Michele, I break out really easily but haven't had problems with Laura Mercier's Oil Free Foundation. I use that and Stila IPF. All these magazines have been talking about the Clarisonic for ages and I got one as a gift-it's been AMAZING for my clogged pores! Anyone else try it?

Cedars - I used to use Laura Mercier oil free, but recently switched to bobby brown and like it much more! My other gripe with Laura mercier is that anything powdered (eye shadow, compact, etc) breaks very easily if you toss it in your purse. I'm a big fan of the urban decay naked palette, which has so many colors I frequently use. I also love my clarisonic!

Megan, I'll check out the Bobby Brown one-thanks! Every time I start to really like something it gets discontinued so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
