  • Residency Program Reviews

One of my friends posted this link on FB: http://www.residencysos.com/

I haven't checked it out yet, though!

Seems like an interesting concept, but looks like it's pretty new. I searched for EM programs in Pennsylvania, and while all were listed, not a single one had any comments registered. I wonder how they're trying to get the word out.

Neat! I'll check it out as I go through IM programs. Thanks for posting it.

Yeah, it looks to me like it JUST started, since there are zero reviews for anything, that I could see. Neat concept, though!

I think so - it was started by someone at HSS in ortho (an ortho spouse maybe?)

scutwork.com used to be a good place to search for program reviews, but they seem kind of dated now.

For EM, at least, SDN has a pretty good sticky with links to threads about most programs with people's impressions of them (either from being in it, or from interviewing there). We found them pretty useful in deciding where to apply.

For Urology, SDN basically doesn't have a form. There's a site urologymatch [dot] com but no one does any reviews on there either. It's not at all helpful.

NSG has uncleharvey but they stopped allowing anonymous posting a few years ago so no one uses it as much. I think reviews from the spouses point of view would be useful but I think in some specialties people will still worry about backlash.

We have tried opening various review sections for years, but generally people don't want to contribute in part due to fears of backlash.

And I think for a lot of our reviews, they're so old as to be virtually useless these days!

Scutwork is anonymous, but like J said, the reviews are so old that they're useless. I don't think anonymity is the issue. I think it's motivating people to put the effort into writing a decent review.

LOL....you have hit on the other problem, Cristina. We tried so many things through the years ... residency reviews, area city reviews ... we tried questionnaire format, wiki, and then we installed the reviews section here that we never really ended up building because ... well ... if you build it, they don't always come! LOL

Yup. Totally. When you're in the thick of things and you could really use the information you think gosh, when I finish with all of this I'm going to go back and review all the places I saw because these are so freakin helpful and I wish more people would do them. Then you match and the last thing you want to do is write a review on all the places you didn't match at.
