What women fail to realize is that men DO NOT find the women in the top row pictures attractive or hot.

When Hollywood began dictating what was "hot"? Thank God DH is impervious to what the media thinks!

I don't personally have any animosity toward the image, and I get what it's TRYING to say, but I read this recently about it, and it really made me think: http://naamah-darling.livejournal.com/560500.html

Interesting link. While I get the authors general point, I honestly think she missed the overall point of the original picture.

Poky, I feel the same way as what you've posted. I don't really love anything that hates on women's figures. I do realize that the intended message of this photo is you don't have to be stick skinny to be beautiful, but to do that by criticizing other people kind of defeats the purpose.
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

I'm with poky and corn poffi. I don't HATE the picture, but I also don't love it. Honestly, I think only the third woman from the left in the top row is sickly thin. The first one has some huge implants, and the last one has no breasts. Not everyone is naturally well endowed, unfortunately. I'm sure there are unattractive curvy women just as there are unattractive skinny women. We should all learn to accept ourselves and each other, for crying out loud.

ST, I'm really only curious, but what do you think the message of the photo is?

Meh, I don't care about either shape. I've got a kiddo who's naturally rail thin and might mistakenly be put into the first group when she's older. The other is DEF more curvy and in the latter group. DD1 has had a very womanly shape since middle school with her true hour-glass figure.

They're both gorgeous. However, my main hope is that they both know how smart, funny, sweet they are, and how much we love and value them.

That the standard for what is thin and pretty has gotten increasingly ridiculous (and possibly unhealthy) in the past few years. Or decades? No one doubts that the first group would be considered the ideal according to society these days, but the second group might be featured on a tabloid with the headline "weight out of control" today.

I honestly thought it was obvious. It's not an uncommon theme.

                          "is Kate Middleton too thin?"

It was obvious, but I thought you were thinking it had a different message when you said that the blog's author missed the point.

And interestingly enough, I think you contradicted yourself when you said that the women in the bottom row would be featured in tabloids with the headline, "Weight out of control," but then also said, "Is Kate Middleton too thin?" It just goes to show that we can't help criticizing other people, whether they're too skinny or too fat. Live and let live.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the vast majority of TV and movie stars are at an unhealthy weight. Off the top of my head, just look at Sofia Vergara, Christina Hendricks, Katherine Heigl, Lauren Graham, Sandra Bullock, Drew Barrymore, Vanessa Hudgens, Amanda Seyfried, and on and on.

Sure there is criticism on both sides, but I didn't take the original photo as saying the first row was ugly. Which is why I thought the blog post had a good point but thought it was going way overboard in regards to this one particular image. I can see it both ways, though.

                              I took it as:

Here was the standard of "hot" then:

Achievable and closer to an average woman

Here is the standard of "hot" now:

achievable to most women only by being born with that body type or possibly through unhealthy choices.

You're not going to find Christina Hendricks on a cat walk, gorgeous as she is.
