  • Teachers get plastic surgery perks despite budget problems

Teachers in Buffalo, NY have had a cosmetic clause for years where they get plastic surgery perks despite budget problems. Who knew and why didn't somebody tell me? I might have become a teacher and moved to Buffalo. I tease. Apparently they're not the only ones in Buffalo because firemen and police also have something similar.

Here is the complete story: link

Yep, and also Niagara County Employees as well as Williamsville School District. At least it was when I worked at the place that paid the claims. It's not insurance per se, at least the way Niagara County and Williamsville SD were set up is the employees pay the premium, and the employer pays for the medical care. They may have copays or coinsurance, or not. But the money for those procedures comes directly out of the taxpayers' pockets. Nice, huh? (I worked at the place that took the money from the employer and paid the health care claims)

It seems the part about the tax payers dollars is what stirs controversy during these tough economic times. The teachers spokesperson said that they keep the perks that were due to expire because they are paid such low wages and no one is willing to come to the table to renegotiate the old contract. That they are willing to give up the cosmetic clause if someone is willing to sit down at the table for re-negotiations. The budget deficit created by the cosmetic clause was what was astounding. With that amount they mentioned they could hire over 240+ more teachers.
