Sooner- have u thought of Christian radio? Do you get KLOVE by you?

Amiens -I'm sorry people are stupid. I have lots of non-catholic friends that give up something for lent!

I am going to give up soda and try not to over indulge so much.

For those that celebrate lent... Do you allow yourself to cheat on Sundays?

We do cheat on Sundays I might not with sugar this year though

I listen Christian radio but I'm trying to take some of the noise out of my life or devote the time to something meaningful

To clarify, we don't cheat on things like prayer

ST - 910AM is a Catholic station -- devotionals, Divine Mercy chaplet, talk that relates to our faith (including parenting), even Mass!

I'm not Catholic but I've had many a practicing Catholic boyfriends in the South. One Lent I participated by giving up online activity for 40 days except on Sundays and I too caught flack for participating when I wasn't Catholic. I send my best wishes to those participating this year.

I fail every lent at giving up something. Mea culpa! I'm thinking about adding something to create a new habit. I'd like to carve out time to read/discuss daily scriptures with the kids. It's tricky because our schedules are crazy and the days just seem to vanish, but hopefully if I make the commitment for 40 days I can create a new habit and schedule. Mornings are stressful and dinners are a feeding frenzy of tired, cranky kids all trying to speak at once. Maybe bedtime/prayer time? Lord give me the energy and patience! I barely make it through bedtime prayers. Guess I'll move bedtime up a smidge.

There was a great (long) article in last Sunday's New York Times Magazine about forming and changing habits, Ladybug!

I use lenten practice more for renewed goal-setting than for giving things up just to reclaim them at Easter (although I have done that before as well - we went vegetarian last year). This year I want to use lent to focus on charitable contributions. I have a small charity budget set aside, and I mostly haven't spent it. I want to do some research and reflection to figure out where that money should go.

Lent has snuck up on me and knowing that Easter is 46 days away kind of freaks me out because DH's last day here is the day after Easter.

I need to do something but I'm thinking a new habit might be a better use of my time then giving something up...we'll see.

Re: ash smudges on the forehead, I completely embarrassed myself a couple of years ago when I told a coworker she had a little something on her face and said it all discreetly like I didn't want to embarrass her.... Thankfully she was a friend, but still. I haven't forgotten since then though! LOL

At a certain point during the day - that's about all that's left! Thanks to DD, I left mass this morning with ashes on my forehead, nose, and cheek!

I have found Classical music very soothing and it allows me to clear my mind and think, for those times when I need a something to help me stay focused.

As far as cheat Sundays, last year when I gave up sugar and wheat. I tried once, and wanted it so bad (imagine a crack addict going through withdrawal, ok maybe not that bad, but close), that I decided the rest of the time I wouldn't cheat. One of the best things I have ever done- cutting out sugar and wheat. A year later, I still consume some, but on a very small scale.

I don't do the Sunday cheat. My mom raised us to go all or nothing. LOL. She also has a giant rosary hanging on her bedroom wall...above her kneeler.
