  • Mysterious package from China - wwyd?

I received a certified package from China today via the US Mail that I had to sign for. I don't remember ordering anything over the net that would be coming from China nor does DH. No family members have said to be on the lookout either.

The package is addressed to me - my name and address are typed - and has no return address. The customs declaration is in Chinese and says "China post" on it.

Anyone heard of any weird packages coming from China?

Any pkgs from China that I get are usually jewelry supplies I bought on ebay. Did you do any ebay auctions recently? Have friends there?

I'm no help, but your post gave me the jeebies. I likely wouldn't have even realized I wasn't expecting a package and would've just ripped it right open though...

I'd probably open it before even thinking about it.

But now that you've got me thinking about it, I'd probably call my FIL bc he was the go to guy for Fire Department regarding handling "suspicious substances" after the 9-11 anthrax scare. (He works in Boca Raton where the guy died - he was a classmate's father.)

Maybe call the local police and ask?

Did you Google "certified packages from China"?

EXACTLY what I am thinking. Go check your cards online.

Or it is part of a scam (from internet):

Chinese Scam Gift Surprise Package Arrives Via USPS Certified Delivery. Yes, there it was a small, compact envelope and package arriving straight from Shanghai, China. There were no hard drives but there was a coin which appeared to be a gift from my seller overseas. There was no note, packing slip or other information in the envelope. For the first few days I thought that the coin was actually a really nice gift of thanks for the purchase of the hard drives. After about five more days I thought again. The coin in the package was not a gift – it was likely a substitute for the hard drives and the package was used with the USPS number to certify that the seller had delivered the hard drives. Of course, there were no hard drives but the seller had a USPS certificate of a delivery of something to me the buyer. The ball was now on my side of the court and it was time to spring into eBay Buyer Protection and action.

I would open it and if you still don't recognize it I'd investigate it more and if you can't figure it out I'd call the police and/or the post office and see what they recommend.

I'd open it. It could be a gift from someone or maybe you didn't realize that something you ordered is actually coming from China. Chinese sellers have invaded Etsy, for example.

I still remember getting a mysterious package a few years ago. I didn't remember ordering it, and the first thing I saw when I opened the tiny package was fur. I thought someone had sent me a rat or something, and I didn't want to continue opening it. It turns out it was a Secret Santa gift from Bath & Body Works: a cute gift set in a crocheted baggie trimmed with fur.

                              Mystery solved!

I ended up opening it because I'd racked my brain as to what it could be and came up with nothing. I knew it wasn't from a store and I hadn't ordered anything from Etsy. I even checked my Ebay purchases and came up with nothing that hadn't been delivered.

So, I opened it and it was some workout DVDs (Turbo Fire). I'd purchased them on Ebay about a month ago using the buy it now function and paid via paypal. I then received an email from them stating that the user had violated the terms of service and that the listing had been removed. It was - totatlly removed! There is no record of that transaction anywhere in my Ebay account - that's why it didn't show up when I looked to see what the package could be. I had forgotten about them because the transaction was canceled and I didn't see the charge on our credit card. Plus I always check where stuff is coming from on Ebay out of curiosity. I can't double check the listing, but I could have sworn that it was coming from Georgia, not China.

So, I'm now the proud owner of a brand new Tubo Jam set if anyone wants to come rock out in my basement!
