fellowship match

aggrhh... match again...

For those who participated in pediatric fellowship match for neonatal/perinatal medicine.. any ideas how hard/ percentage of success in matching? Dh has 15 interviews, rejected one and maybe planning to reject another one.. So, 13 definite interviews and 1 maybe...Any ideas??

Sorry I don't have any information for you. When my husband went through fellowship there wasn't a match. I think he only inteviewed at 3 places and was offered his top pick. I would think the match would depend on how many fellowship spots are open each year and how many applicants there are. For the programs where DH was interested, they had 3 fellows per year. Sorry I am not of much help. Good luck! When is the match?

My understanding is that among peds fellowships, neo is fairly competitive, but nothing in peds is that competitive. Having that many interviews sounds like a good sign to me.

Have you checked the PSSM page? There are probably some stats there.

update: Dh went to 15 interviews, rejected 4 and we are $7500 poorer in the savings.. whooop whoop....He is currently at cincinnati children's (the dream program) which we are hoping hoping eagerly to match to. Otherwise, northwestern at chicago showed a fair amount of interest but i really think living in chicago on one salary is kinda hard and we plan to start a family in about 2 years down the road. Match day is on Oct 3,2012. Now, all left to do is to cross my fingers everyday and pray hard for cincy...

Haha, yes we are aware that getting any program in neo is not super hard but getting into cincy is a whole other story. DH is very interested in lung biology and research and only wants the best program (type A ppl smh). So, he applied mostly to programs that has good lung research and good clinical training. Cincy, colorado, uab, miami, northwestern, dallas, those are some of his choice programs and obviously cincy is right at the top. thanks for your support!!! Nothing much we can do now except to wait

Cinch is always ranked high for neonatology and their lung research is top-rated. We have three friends who did their fellowship there.
