  • Creepy Crawlies

Mosquito Hawks. It's like last year's cicada crop. They are EVERYWHERE this year. I hate them.

DH keeps laughing at me as I try to swat the ones that have come into the house - normally, I just usher them outside, but when I open the door, 6 more fly in.
Anyone else notice higher numbers of insects this year?

Oh yeah... It going to be an awful summer for bugs. It just didn't get cold enough here this winter.

We too have crane flies... the cats like to chase them! Since they are harmless I don't worry too much about them. I deal w/ scorpions E.V.E.R.Y. yeaR, therefore unless it is poisonous &/or can sting I leave it too the kitties

Huge nasty spiders already!!! I usually don't see them this big until July. Ugh

And the ants are frickin out of control.

I haven't seen an uptick in bugs yet, but DAMN. The frogs (peepers) are everywhere. Last night it rained and they came out of the creek and were stuck to all the windows on the house. I went outside to check it out and accidentally stepped on a bunch. (seriously, it looks like a plague struck!)

Since (like Suz) I'm used to scorpions, rattlers, and other desert dwelling creatures I'm thinking that the bugs in Nashville have to be less intimidating...right?

I'm almost sorry I looked in this thread. Now I have the heebie-jeebies. There are five spiders that live above my front door, and I did notice an active wasps nest forming above my living room window a few weeks ago.

It is quite plague-like here, right now.
The mosquito hawks (crane flies - thanks, Momo!) are just the beginning.
Haven't seen the frogs out yet, but we do have more leopard geckos already out this spring... and they eat ants, moths, spiders, etc.

Last year it was hotter than heck (no, really...) and we had tons of wasps/hornets, locusts (or cicadas), and flies.

Ick. Haven't noticed much yet. A few of those giant dessert roaches, ewwww, but that's it so far.

Our biggest infestation so far has been bunnies, so I think Nashville will be an improvement

Actually the mosquitoes here can be intense. And I've just started spotting a few ants in the kitchen and living room this week, so they'll probably be pretty bad this year. We do have snakes, though I've never had one get in the house. Just beware if you have dogs while they're in the backyard or on walks.

Maybe she is talking about the ginormous sewer roaches we get around here. So gross!

Dangerous snakes or just your garden variety snake?

In nm we have these really big black roaches that stay outside for the most part & come in looking for water occasionally. Maybe its just the high dessert. I certainly didn't expect them when we moved here.
