May have been a fluke but Minnie rolled from her belly to her back during tummy time today. Made me realize I should probably get a baby book to record this stuff in. Any recs?

I just have a pretty blank notebook from Barnes and Noble. I started writing to her when I got pregnant, but I've been bad about updating it. I should make a list of "firsts" in the cover.

I jot "firsts" down on our family calender and then update the baby books from time to time. I also jot down cute stories and happenings with the date on index cards so I can compile them at my leisure or stick them in photo albums.

A friend of mine told me that she writes one sentence each night before going to bed about something her baby has done. That's a bit less daunting than filling up a book. I stopped adding to dd's book around month 9. . One of the entries has you attach the front page of the newspaper on your child's birthday to the book, and I remember sending dh on a manhunt for it... Dd was born at 11:59pm, and I made him go through recycle bins during the week we were at the hospital. Some of those books are pretty time consuming.
        Enjoy Minnie! She's great!!!

Would you believe that my mom maintained my baby book until I was 13? She had even noted my first period.

This is the one I have for each kid. I got them at Barnes and Noble. Pretty easy to use. You just write in the info as it asks for it. There's a small pocket that you can add photos too, or hospital bracelets, ultrasound images, etc. I was good about updating for D, then K was pretty good. Poor P. Her book is half empty!

I need to go back to my kids' baby books and add a little more - even just some of their personality traits. It's hard to live in the moment and archive! During residency, one of my friends was having her second baby, and we decided to go through all of her baby things from baby #1. We found baby #1's baby book, completely empty, and she had a huge panic that her daughter would feel so unloved! We sat down that night, thought about what her daughter had done roughly "on time", "early", and "late." We proceded to MAKE UP the baby book from birth through age 3 1/2 so that her daughter's book wouldn't be empty!

I'm already having a heart attack that I'm so behind in updating this stuff.

I did have one good idea though. I'm going to write her every year on her birthday about her previous year and DH will write her on Valentine's Day. I feel like I can commit to once a year letter writing. While I'd love to say that I'll record all the firsts, I think a heartfelt letter about the joys and wonders of her previous year is the best she's going to get. We both wrote for her birthday/first Valentine's day so we're off to a good start!

I have not been very commited to a traditional baby book. I started one, but didn't keep up with it. I did decide that every year I would make a photo book with pictures from the previous year. Like TulipsAndSunscreen I wrote about the year as part of the book. Only one year down so far, but it turned out really great and I enjoy looking at it from time to time.

I used my Facebook statuses and my pictures to fill in a lot of DS's baby book gaps.

What ever you end up with go and get some of those glue dots at the craft store. Makes it really easy to glue in clippings and pictures.
