  • Has anyone had to buy a toilet lately?

Uggh! I am in charge of researching & pricing a toilet & an electrical water heater. The toilets are so confusing!!! Luckily, I am fine w/white as they are the cheapest of any style. So if you have gone the home depot or Lowes route, what did you buy & are you satisfied?

My sister bought a new one recently and while I have no idea what kind it was I do know that "power flush" was a huge factor for her. Basically, they got a model that had dual stage flushing and the stage 2 was such that she never had to unclog the toilet again.

Hehe...get one that has a little knob on the top that you pull up instead of the normal handle to flush...my parents have one and it confuses the heck out of any visitors. But you might not be evil like that.

We replaced every toilet in our last house. Are you installing it yourselves? If so, Kohlers are very touchy regarding how tight you can tighten them (DH cracked one in half). I think we did American Standard in one bath, Kohler in two, and I can remember for the last. We only bought the ones advertised for flushing a bucket of golf balls. If you're doing it yourselves, buy two wax rings and return the second if you don't need it. I don't know how old your house is, but this one was about 20 years old and the fit wouldn't work without the second ring.

I recommend Toto toilets. The basic model runs nearly $300 but is totally worth it. We've had ours about eight months and have had only one clog (3 year old tried to flush half roll of paper down).

We have Toto here. I just don't know how they are down the road. We like them for now (also with three kids who love the TP). I will warn that the high version of Toto is higher than other brands. I can barely touch the floor.

I should add- our Toto has clogged a couple of times, where our Kohlers never did. But again, three small kids live here.

I like our Toto. We have a tight space in our master bath and Toto's profile is much smaller than American brands. We got it online for under $300, but it is one of the simpler versions. We have the lower version because I'm very short. My parents have the taller version and my feet don't touch the floor.

We have a Kohler Cimmarron - aka the "super toilet" You could flush golfballs down the thing and it won't clog. It also flushes/refills super quickly. Our other two toilets are crap (pun intended).

We love the dual flushes in our new place! I would definitely go for those if I were installing one now!
